Obituary

Alberta Tolman passed away Wednesday January 24, 2018 at the age of 79 at her daughter's home in Riverside, Idaho. She was born in Rexburg, Idaho, 17 May 1938 to William Albert Pincock and Ruby Rushforth Pincock and given the name of both her parents; Ruby Alberta. She grew up on the family farm just west of Sugar City, Idaho. Alberta attended Sugar Salem Schools and graduated from high school in 1956. She then attended Ricks College and was the sophomore class representative, graduating as salutatorian in 1958. Alberta married Gerald Olester Tolman in the Salt Lake Temple 18 September 1958. They both continued their education at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. Alberta graduated in 1960 with a BS degree in Medical Technology and a minor in chemistry. In 1962 Gerald's father was accidently killed and Gerald and Alberta decided to buy the family business, Bancroft Milling and Feed, from Gerald's mother, and stay in Bancroft. They raised their six children there. Alberta served in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Ward Relief Society President, Primary President, and Young Women President and other ward callings including primary music, gospel doctrine teacher, and Relief Society teacher. Alberta also served as a Stake Relief Society counselor and Stake Primary counselor. Gerald and Alberta served three missions together: two years in the England Leeds Mission, a year and half in the Adam-ondi-Ahman Mission and another year and half in the New York Rochester Mission with special assignment to the Hill Cumorah visitors sites which included the Grandin Building, the Whitmer Farm, Hill Cumorah Visitor Center and the Smith Farm with the Sacred Grove. They gave tours to visitors at these special sites. In 1991 she was hired as the North Gem School District Secretary and Financial Manager, later serving as Clerk of the North Gem School Board. She also served on the State & National Pork Producers Council. Alberta loved to sew and made most of the children's clothes as they grew up. She loved to quilt and has designed and pieced quilt tops including one for each of her eleven granddaughters. Alberta organized and printed a family history, Our Legacy, which consisted of 319 pages of the life of her parents and siblings, with the assistance of her son, Travis. She also compiled and published a short history of the Historic Bancroft Mill built in 1911-12 that was the center of the milling business in Bancroft for nearly one hundred years. Alberta is survived by her six children: Travis (Leisa) Tolman, Anne (Dodd) Price, David (Shelli) Tolman, Nathan (Diane) Tolman, Marlynn (Brett) Williams, and Ruby Elese (Carl) Holm, 33 grandchildren, and 14 Great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gerald Olester Tolman, grandson, Ryan Evans, and granddaughter, Madison Holm. Viewing and visitation will be from 9:30-11:30 at the Bancroft, Idaho, LDS Church, on Saturday, January 27, 2018, followed by funeral services at 12 noon. Burial will be in the Bancroft Cemetery following the services.
