IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alfred Wesley
Guthrie
November 23, 1957 – April 25, 2023
Alfred Wesley Guthrie, Jr. Passed away at his home in Bancroft, Idaho on April 25, 2023.
Alfred was born in Pocatello, Idaho November 23rd, 1957, to Alfred Sr. and Annette Guthrie. He grew up with 4 brothers and 2 sisters: Alvin, Marilyn, Mike, Melissa, Richard, and Joe. Alvin was the oldest then came Fred, Marilyn, Mike, Melissa, Richard, and then Joe. They lived in Conda, Inkom, McCammon, and Lava. They had a pretty good life in those growing-up years, where the boys taught Marilyn how to fight so she could beat up boys. They weren't rich by any means, but their family was filled with love and I'm pretty sure that's how Fred got to be the wonderful man we all knew and loved.
Alfred went to elementary school in Lava, McCammon, Arimo, and graduated from Marsh Valley High School. For many years Fred worked for many different companies throughout his life. He worked for AD potter and Raymond Irick doing construction. He worked for Kase, B&K insulation, John Hall insulation, and GBI insulation.
In 1994 Fred met the love of his life Jennilyn. He brought his two children Cory and Jamie with him, and Jennilyn brought her three children Mandy, Kyle, and Dustin. They then added Malyssa in 1996 and Dalton in 2001 to the mix and there you have it, the Guthrie bunch! Together Fred and Jennilyn built a life with this crew and together they had 17 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
As a teenager Fred was a part of the high school baseball team and also lettered in football. Fred was an avid fisherman, hunter, snowmobiler, tinkerer and all-around good guy. He supported his children and grandchildren in everything they did, whether it was in person or from the comfort of his chair in his last few years. I think one of his favorite past times was calling anyone and everyone out on their bull****.
Some of the biggest accomplishments he had was the love for all of his children and his grandchildren. He tried to make sure that everyone of his kids knew how proud he was of them. His grandkids were the apple of his eye and his whole world.Everyone always says they don't have a favorite grandchild but we all knew that Remi and papa had the best bond of all. They were each other's best buds and gramps taught Remi all kinds of mischief.
Fred is survived by wife of 28 years Jennilyn, his children Cory (Dana) Guthrie Pocatello, Dalton (Madison) Guthrie Bancroft, Malyssa (James) Hainline Bancroft, Jamie Guthrie Pocatello, Mandy (Lamont) Frandsen Lava Hot Springs, Kyle Dunn, Dustin (Krissy) Dunn McCammon. His 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild His siblings Alvin (Lisa) Guthrie, Mike (Chris) Guthrie, Richard(Barbara) Guthrie, and Marilyn(Gene) Kingston. Many nieces and nephews and family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Alfred Sr. and Annette Guthrie, both sets of grandparents, his brother Joe, and sister Melissa.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 12 :00 pm at the Lava Hot Springs LDS Church, 437 W Spring St, in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho The framily will host a viewing at Sims Funeral Home on Friday, May 5 from 7-8 and again from 10:30-11:30 Saturday at the church prior to services.
