Obituary

Allie Jean Nielsen Spackman passed away May 23, 2023 in Bountiful, Utah at the age of 91.

She was born April 2 1932 in Preston Idaho to Victor Kofoed Nielsen and Donna Bodily Nielsen. She graduated from Preston High School in 1950. On July 28th of that same year she married Kaye R. Spackman from Richmond Utah in the Logan Utah LDS temple. After Kaye's 2 year tour of duty in the Army they moved to Soda Springs Idaho where Kaye was employed by Monsanto. They bought a home and raised 4 children.

Jean was a valued member of the Soda Springs community for 68 years. She was a homemaker, a gifted seamstress and also worked as librarian at the Soda Springs city library and Jr. High school library. Jean was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. One of her favorite callings was working with the Primary age boys in Blazers and Guide Patrol. One of her last callings was as Relief Society teacher where her testimony grew and the bond with her sisters was strengthened.

She was a devoted wife and mother, a friend to many and an example of service and compassion. She offered a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on and an understanding heart and many found comfort and peace in her association. She used her many talents to bless the lives of others with handmade cards, other hand-crafted items, and baked goods. Some will remember her for her cinnamon rolls.

Jean had a delightful sense of humor and was generally young at heart. She enjoyed the youth in her neighborhood, ward and family. She liked visiting with them, knowing about their lives and interests, she encouraged them in their endeavors. She greatly appreciated their visits and service rendered and often spoke of them by name.

She loved nature. She carefully tended her flower gardens; coaxing blooms and blossoms even in Soda's inhospitable climate. She brought the outdoors inside with her plants, paintings and watercolors. She made camping a favorite family activity.  Witnessing God's many spectacular creations, brought her much joy and peace especially in the last years of her life.

She is survived by her son Robert Spackman of Soda Springs, ID and daughters Debra (Gordon), Judy (Joey), Cindy (Nathan) all of Bountiful UT; 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Her brother Kimber Nielsen of Emmett ID, and sister-in-law Jan Nielsen of Soda Springs ID.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband Kaye Spackman, parents, siblings; David Nielsen, Marion Thomas, Ronnie Nielsen. Her daughter-in-law Sadie Spackman and granddaughter Carrie Spackman.

A celebration of her life will be held Friday, June 2nd at 1 pm in 3rd ward chapel located at 281 E. Hooper Ave. There will be a viewing prior to the service at the same location 11:30 to 12:45. Interment will be in the Richmond cemetery immediately following the service at 320 N 200 E, Richmond, UT.

Jean's family wishes to express gratitude and appreciation for the loving professional care given Jean in her final days by Utah Home Health and Hospice and Aspen Physician Group.
