Erwin 'Arkade' Spencer, known by many as Kade or Spenc, was born on September 13, 1936 to Ruth Beck and Erwin M. Spencer in Mount Pleasant, Utah. The second oldest of seven children, Arkade spent his younger years in Indianola and Salem before settling down in Provo where he attended high school and was a valued member of the wrestling team.
In 1955 he married Loreen Carnesecca and together they had three daughters. Although they later divorced, the two remained close friends until her death in 1995. Arkade never remarried.
Throughout his career, Arkade wore several different hats. Early on he worked in construction and then moved onto the installation of sprinkler systems. In addition to being a hard worker, Arkade was also innovative and before long he received an opportunity to work exclusively on sprinkler installations for Arnold Palmer golf courses throughout the nation. His work during this time fostered his love of golf, a hobby which he cherished throughout his life.
After years of traveling throughout the country, Arkade settled down in Grace, Idaho - working for Kerr-McGee until his retirement in the late 90's. He loved the town of Grace and always appreciated how seamlessly they accepted him into their community. Arkade always enjoyed visiting with neighbors he would see throughout the day and loved catching up with friends over coffee at the EZ-Way. He was a faithful Grizzly fan and a familiar face in the crowd at many sporting events.
When Arkade had free time, he could be found outdoors, fishing on a lake, snowmobiling through the forest, or singing around a campfire. He was an avid hunter and many loved ones hold fond memories of time spent with Arkade on the side of a mountain or RVing cross-country. Known for his quick-wit and good humor, Arkade nearly always had a smile on his face and was a pleasure to be around. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
On June 20, 2018, Arkade passed away peacefully at his home. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Tamma and Terrill, and his beloved friend and sister-in-law Renae. Arkade is survived by his daughters, Robyn (Kevin) Moss, Shelley (Jeff) Williams, Wendy (Raymond) Higgins and also by his siblings Janet Thomas, Carson Spencer, Randy Spencer, and Jeff (Patty - or as he liked to call her 'Red') Spencer. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews that meant the world to him.
A service celebrating Arkade's life will be held on July 7th at 1:00 p.m. at the Grace LDS Church with a family and friends greeting starting at 12:00 p.m.
