IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barry Wayne
Lau
January 8, 1959 – February 8, 2026
Barry Wayne Lau, age 67, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026. He was born on January 8, 1959, in Soda Springs, Idaho, to Kay and Dorothy Lau. Barry was the third of five children. He was raised with his siblings Sharon, Doug, Jana, and Diann.
Barry graduated from Soda Springs High School in 1977. Not long after, while cruising Main Street in Preston, Idaho with his older brother Doug, Barry met the love of his life, Lanett. Their connection was immediate and deep. They became engaged during Lanett's senior year of high school and were married just six weeks after her graduation on July 14, 1979. On October 14, 1995, Barry and Lanett were sealed as a family forever in the Logan, Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a day the family fondly called their "Family Forever Day."
Barry and Lanett chose to raise their two sons, Jared and Jeff, in Soda Springs. Barry worked for many years at the local plants, always focused on providing for his family and creating opportunities to build meaningful memories together. After supporting Lanett through four years of Dental Hygiene school, Barry later made the decision to return to school himself. That choice ultimately provided a better work and life balance, creating more time for the epic family adventures he cherished greatly. The most important thing in Barry's life was his family, and his world revolved around them.
Some of his favorite family activities included hunting with his boys and grandchildren, camping, fly fishing, archery, riding horses, four-wheeler riding, hot rodding, golfing, and watching professional football with those he loved. Each year, Barry created a cherished family tradition by buying every family member a Super Bowl square. He had a remarkable talent for designing and creating thoughtful, handmade gifts for family and friends, always putting deep care and intention into each piece.
Barry was, without question, the world's best grandpa. He built cradles by hand, jumped on trampolines with his grandchildren, and planned special Grandma and Grandpa vacations just for them. He took them hunting, camping, and on outdoor adventures where memories were made in the quiet of the mountains and around campfires. He took the time to teach them how to drive, patiently passing along confidence and life lessons along the way. He was not the kind of grandpa grandchildren spent time with out of obligation. He was the one they could not wait to be with, knowing something meaningful, fun, and maybe even a little epic was about to happen.
Barry loved Lanett with the kind of love you read about in stories—steady, selfless, and enduring. She was his wife, his best friend, and his eternal companion. Through every joy and every hardship, they remained side by side, knowing the story they were writing together would last forever.
Barry was known for his calm and gentle nature. He rarely complained, was slow to become upset, and was always the first to offer a helping hand. He was a selfless and kind man whose playful teasing was always meant to uplift and connect. It was his love language. Barry had a Christlike way of making everyone feel accepted, welcomed, and part of the group.
Barry's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Barry is survived by his beloved wife, Lanett Lau; his sons, Jared (Topaz) Lau and Jeff (Lea) Lau; his siblings Sharon (Alan) Christiansen, Doug (Stephanie) Lau, Jana (Mark) Hill, and Diann (Don) Jenkins; his father- and mother-in-law Jerry and Linda Baird; his sister-in-law DeAnn (Mark) Cooper; his grandchildren Gracey (James) Peterson, Makya (Sian) Lau, Kylee Lau, Gracie Lau, Madi Lau, Kira Lau, and Cora Lau; and his great-grandchildren Xyla and Xan Peterson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kay and Dorothy Lau, and his granddaughter, Kloe Lau.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 16th at 12:00 p.m. at the Hooper LDS Church. A viewing will be held prior to services from 10:30–11:30 a.m. at the Hooper LDS Church. Concluding services and the dedication of the grave will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs.
