Soda Springs

Obituary

Benjamin David Goode, 42, of Soda Springs, passed away on September 10, 2026. Ben was a child of God, devoted husband, fun dad, loving son and brother, and an easy friend to many.

Ben was born in Boise, ID on August 28, 1984, to Jon and Shari Goode. When he was 18 months old, Jon and Shari moved to Soda Springs, ID and planned to stay for only two years. Fortunately, they were wrong. Ben spent the rest of his childhood in Soda Springs, a town he would love for the rest of his life.

Ben graduated as valedictorian from Soda Springs High School and completed his undergraduate degree in accounting at Washington State University, where he was an enthusiastic Cougs fan. Ben went on to earn his master’s degree in accounting at Boise State University and later earned his MBA at Northern Illinois University.

He started his accounting career in 2007 and met the love of his life, Erica, at a company training in Orlando, FL on his birthday. Their love was almost immediate and they were inseparable - except that they lived nowhere near each other (Ben in Boise, Erica in Chicago). They dated long-distance and married in 2009. They started their lives together in the suburbs of Chicago, where they brought two amazing children, Riley and Colton, into this world. In 2019, Ben and Erica felt God calling their family to Soda Springs, so they went in faith.

Ben was an incredible husband and father. He was the loudest voice at any track or cross-country meet, cheering on his daughter. He was quick to drop everything to play video games or LEGO with his son. He cooked family dinner every Sunday night. He really just wanted to be around his family as much as he could. Ben was an avid hunter, massive football fan, played a ton of racquetball with his dad, and was a quick ‘Yes’ if you asked him to cook for 100 people. Most recently, Ben took up running and completed his first marathon in Sydney, Australia, just weeks before his death. He loved traveling, both internationally and domestically, but one of his favorite places in the world was Door County, WI.

Ben spent his career in accounting and finance, almost exclusively in the mining industry, which he had a lifelong passion for. He was a pillar of his community as a worship music leader at Caribou Bible Church, a Rotary member, and a school board trustee. Ben was also involved in Idaho politics as a board member of the Associated Taxpayers of Idaho and a Republican precinct committeeman. He had dreams of serving in a larger role in Idaho politics one day.

Ben is survived and missed terribly by his wife Erica, his children, Riley and Colton, parents Shari and Jon (Soda Springs), brother Nate (Boise), Grandmother Bert Koon (Draper, UT), numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, Erica’s parents Nadine and Stan Berczynski (Lake Zurich, IL), Erica’s sister Lisa (Luke) Farran (Lake Zurich, IL), nieces Penelope and Valerie, dog Piper, and cat Chef. He is also survived by an entire community that called him a friend.

A memorial service will be held in Ben’s honor on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 10:00 am in the Soda Springs High School gymnasium. Doors open at 9:00 am. Please come as you are.
