Obituary

Brenda Fae Baker Smith, 65; left this earthly life to be with her Heavenly Father on April 27, 2011 after a long battle with diabetes and kidney failure.

Brenda was born July 11, 1945 to Harold Alfred Baker and Anna Lucil Hall in Pocatello, Idaho. She was raised in Lava Hot Springs on Dempsey Creek road on the family farm. She graduated from Marsh Valley High School in 1963.

While taking care of Veva Clark, she met Earl Gordon Smith, who had just returned from working in Las Vegas. They were married March 5, 1965. The first few years of their marriage was spent in McCammon and Soda Springs, Idaho. They later moved and made their home in Grace, Idaho where they raised their two children, Norman Jay and Cindy Mae. The past few years she lived in Pocatello, Idaho with her daughter.

Brenda was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she faithfully served in various callings. Brenda was a great cub scout leader and spent many years helping the young boys to get started in the scouting program. She will always be remembered for her compassionate service. There wasn't a funeral or surgery that went by where she wasn't whipping up a potato casserole, jello salad or a pan of brownies to take over to the families or the church. She fed everyone.

She was an avid Utah Jazz fan. She loved flowers, garage sales, plastic canvas, cross stitch, reading, listening to music and of course Alan Jackson.

Brenda loved to get together with her friends. Once you were her friend you were her friend for life. She would remember everyone's birthday, anniversary or special occasion and sent many cards with poems or little sayings.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Fahim Rahim, Dr. Naeem Rahim and the Idaho Kidney Institute for all the love and care they have given her.

Brenda is survived by her son Norman (Dania) Smith of Middleton, ID; daughter Cindy Smith of Pocatello, ID; a sister Karma (Miles) Whiting of Lava Hot Springs, ID; and two brothers; Rex (Peggy) Baker of Lava Hot Springs, ID; Bruce (Peg) Baker of McCammon, ID; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl and her parents; Harold and Lucil; a nephew Lance Baker, a niece DiAnna Baker.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Grace LDS Stake Center. The family will visit with friends on Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs and on Saturday morning from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Stake Center prior to services. Burial will be in the Grace Cemetery.

We are grateful for the time we had with you and our lives will be forever blessed by you. We will always love you and miss your beautiful smile and contagious laugh.
