C. McGee Harris, 79, passed away October 20, 2017 at his home in Eight Mile, surrounded by family. He was born April 18, 1938 in Logan, Utah to Guy and Cora Harris.
McGee grew up in Lago, Idaho on a cattle ranch. He loved to cause mischief and was fun to be around. He loved taking care of the animals and riding his horses. As a boy he would herd their family's sheep in the foothills of Lago. McGee loved to help drive cattle from Lago up over the hill into Eight Mile and Cheatbeck every summer and then back every fall. He would also tend the cattle North of Soda Springs at Cow Camp. He played football during his high school years at Grace High School. Soon after graduation, he married his sweetheart Janet S. Gillett. They made their home in Eight Mile. Together they operated their cattle ranch and raised five children, Wade, Zan, Todd, Kurt, and Mark. McGee loved working and spending time with his family, especially taking them skiing in the winter. McGee loved his horses, his dogs, and his cattle. He was a great steward of the land.
McGee was active in many different organizations. He was a State Director of the Idaho Cattleman's Association and served as a Director of Producers Livestock. McGee was appointed by the governor to serve on the Idaho Beef Council and later appointed to serve on the Idaho State Brand Board. He also served as a Soda Springs School District Board Trustee. He was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints. He held callings such as a member of the Stake Presidency, Bishopric, Young Men's organization, Stake Mission leader, Temple worker in the Logan Temple, but his favorite was serving in the nursey.
He is survived by his best friend and wife, Janet, children Wade (Renee) Harris, Soda Springs, Zan (Wayne) Zickgraf, Kopeii, Hawaii, Todd (Cindy) Harris, Malta, Idaho, Kurt (Jackie) Harris, Malta, Idaho, Mark (Cheryl) Harris, Soda Springs, sister Carla Mae Thompson, Grace, brother Robert (Ruth) Harris, Lago, many grandkids and great grandkids. He was preceeded in death by his parents Guy and Cora Harris, siblings Vard Harris, Marjorie Panter, Mardene Andreasen, Lorren Wilson, and a grandson, Kolten Harris.
Services will be a visitation on Sunday, October 22, 2017, 6-8 p.m. at the Sims Funeral Home and a private graveside service October 23, 2017. Burial will be in Lago Cemetery, Lago, Idaho.
