Soda Springs, ID…our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend Clair "Andy" Wheatley Anderson, 88, peacefully passed away on March 27, 2024. Andy was born June 11, 1935 in Bothwell, UT to Ray H Anderson and Gladys Wheatley Anderson.
Andy was raised by his grandfather and grandmother Anderson until they passed away. At the age of 11 he went to live on a family ranch in Dillon MT. with his Uncle Ken and Aunt Dorothy Paskett and cousin Kaye.
Andy was a graduate of Beaverhead County High School in 1953.
Soon after graduation he joined the military. He served 4 years in the US Navy from 1953-1957, working in the construction battalion. Once home from the military, he attended University of Utah for 1 year and transferred to Montana State University.
He then served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Sydney, Australia.
Then he met and fell in love with Janet Ann Hall while in Salt Lake City, UT. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 10, 1963.
Andy worked in the banking industry from 1964 until 1980. In 1975 they moved to Lava Hot Springs, ID, where they lived for 32 years. He was the bank manager in Lava and later owned and operated Thunder Canyon Golf Course and was involved with the Idaho Junior Golf Association. He then worked for Bannock County as a heavy equipment operator.
In 2007 Andy and Janet moved to Soda Springs. Even in retirement, Andy liked to keep busy and continued to work on the Torgesen/Murdock farm.
Andy was a natural athlete and had many hobbies. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, spending time with his children and grandkids and was always up for a game of cards.
Andy is survived by his wife Janet, son Lance (Sherrie) Anderson of Highland UT, daughter Lori (Robert) Buck of Soda Springs, ID, son Casey (Michelle) Anderson of Chubbuck ID along with 17 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren 1 great-great-grandson, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Andy was preceded in death by his parents, aunt and uncle, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Due to extenuating circumstances the funeral will be postponed until Saturday April 27th 2024 at 11 a.m. The service will be held at the Bailey Creek LDS church. Family will receive guests the evening of Friday April 26th 2024 from 630-8 pm at the Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs, ID.
