Obituary

Soda Springs, Idaho....  Curtis King Bassett, 76 lifelong resident of Soda Springs, passed peacefully in his home on December 27, 2025 surrounded by family.

Curtis was born on November 23, 1949 to Loran and Helen Bassett in Soda Springs, eight out of 10 children.  He grew up fly fishing up NO-TELL-UM CREEK with his dad and later his kids. He also enjoyed bowling with his dad, wife, brother Shuell and his kids Jeremy and Tonya.

He married the love of his life Susan Kay Gibson on May 14, 1971 in Grace, Idaho. They made their home in Soda Springs, where Curtis worked as a Master Carpenter. Curtis was a Jack of All Trades, a musician and recreational comedian.  He spent many hours working with his brothers.  One of his greatest joys was playing music with his brother Shuell in their band ARGUS.

To his wife Sue,  he was a loving companion. He proudly provided and protected his family with honor and grace.

To his daughter Tonya he was a hero, Curtis was a wise counselor offering words of wisdom and strength. Teaching her it is ok to stand up for your beliefs and that the Bible is true.

To his son Jeremy he was his best friend, he taught him everything from hunting and fishing, to being the best example of how a man should live his life according to God's word.

Curtis was a very proud grandfather of six grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He always made time to stop and play with his grandkids from taking them on 4 wheeler rides in the snow, to wrestling on the floor, to teaching them how to use tools, hunt and fish and dance. He shared his love of music and God with each and everyone of them.

Curtis's brother Shuell recalls " When I was about 12 or 13 I first saw Curtis playing with his band at a "Battle of the Bands" at the Soda Springs High School where his band won first place and Curtis received the award for Most Talented Player. That was most likely the moment that inspired me to learn to play guitar and form a band. After my band started playing gigs and our bass player quit I asked Curtis if he would be interested in playing bass with our band and we were pleasantly shocked when he said he would! He was an awesome bass player even though I'd never seen him pick one up before. A true multi-instrumentalist. Our band was a rarity with four lead vocalists and all members were also harmony singers! He inspired me on many levels with his abilities in carpentry, welding, fishing, hunting and basically anything he tried. I treasure the times I was able to play music and work with him. He was an incredible person and brother! I'll miss him immensely."

Curtis helped build and taught at the New Hope Community Church where enjoyed sharing and teaching others about his love of God and the truth of the Bible.  With his gentle hands and gracious words he was always ready to help anyone in need of prayer.

Curtis was not a saint but he trusted in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior to save him from his sins. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast" (Eph 2:8,9) From the Word of God we  can rest knowing he is in the Kingdom and presence of GOD! " For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit" (1 Peter 3:18)

" He bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness- by whose stripes you were healed" (1 Peter 2:24)

Curtis is survived by his wife Susan Kay Bassett, daughter Tonya Harp and her husband Jeff, son Jeremy Bassett and his wife Jen, six grandchildren and one great granddaughter, his brother Schuell.   There will be a celebration of life at a later date to be announced.

Curtis was a HAPPY GO LUCKY GUY and friend to many
