Obituary

Dallas Earl Murdoch passed peacefully at home the evening of July 16, 2023, with his loving wife, Joan, at his side.

Dallas was born in Rigby, Idaho on October 23, 1937 to Brigham Dallas Murdoch and Winona Lee Murdoch. His growing up years were spent in Ucon, Idaho; Lima, Montana; and Rigby, Idaho. He grew up working on the ranch and loving the mountains. He graduated from Rigby High School in 1955, attended Ricks College for two years, and served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Northern California Mission.

Before his mission, he had proposed to Joan Hale. They met at Ricks College, and he knew she was the one for him. She waited two years for him, and on December 10, 1959, they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple. He then attended Brigham Young University and the University of Washington School of Dentistry, from which he graduated in 1964. He and Joan then moved their family to Grace, Idaho, which has been their home for nearly 60 years. He practiced dentistry in Grace and Soda Springs for over 40 years.

Dallas was always busy with a project. He loved the great outdoors. He spent much of his free time hunting, fishing, waterskiing, camping, and sharing these experiences with his family and friends. He was active in the Church and held many callings including Stake Mission President, Ward Missionary, High Councilor, and Scoutmaster. He loved Scouting and received the Silver Beaver Award. He served many years on the Grace School Board. He served as President of the Murdoch Family Organization for several years and was instrumental in writing and publishing two large volumes of family history.

He and Joan gave many years of service. They welcomed many who stayed in their home, including three foster daughters through the Indian placement program. They traveled to Thailand, Tonga, Peru and Honduras, donating their time and talents as they participated in six dental service projects. He would often care for the dental needs of family, missionaries, and others for free. He was a great example of giving service.

Dallas is survived by his wife, Joan, and his children Kathleen Anderson (Gary Beach); James Dallas (Maili); Karen (Todd Brandt); and Sheydene Lee Murdoch; 19 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronald Lee, step-mother Agnes Simonsen, step-sister Mary Lou Versey, son David Clayton Murdoch, and son-in-law Brian Anderson. He loved his family and was a good husband and father. He looks forward to being reunited with them as an eternal family in the hereafter.

Funeral services will be held in the Grace 2nd Ward on July 22, 2023, at 12:00 PM. The family will meet with friends from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow the funeral at the Grace Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints missionary fund.
