Heaven received our Hero April 19th, 2018. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife and family.

David R Smith was born to William Russell Smith and Anna Elizabeth Roholt on March 20th, 1946 in Wendell, Idaho. He was the fifth of seven children. David spent most of his childhood with his favorite dog, riding horses, and enjoying time with his cousins. During grade school his family moved to Grace Idaho where he lived in a log home outside of town, at the bottom of Medford Hill, in Turner, and lastly in town. He later graduated from Grace High in 1964 as a Red Devil.

After high school, David joined the Army Reserves in October 65'. He completed basic training in Virginia and went on to accomplish certification in subversion and espionage surveillance.

After he was honorably discharged, he moved back to Grace and began working at Kerr McGee in October 66. David retired from Kerr McGee and then worked another 10 years at Agrium. There he developed many loyal and devoted friendships that lasted until his passing.

He did enjoy his toys, especially racing snowmachines, and was an avid hunter… until he became a grandfather. They became his life. He enjoyed watching the many activities of his grandchildren including soccer, lacrosse, football, basketball, track, volleyball, wrestling, baseball and academic achievements. He also enjoyed guns and reloading ammunition.

David had a keen sense of humor and a quick wit. He enjoyed an occasional prank, sometimes the giver, sometimes the receiver.

He married Vania Seely in April 1969. They were later sealed in the Logan temple in 1978. They had 4 children and 14 grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father Russell, mother Anna, brothers Morly, Llewellyn and Ellis and a sister, LaRene. He is survived by his wife Vania; daughters Nichole (John) Christensen, Trudi Andersen, Jodi (Eli) Horsley; and son Jeremy (Trisha) Smith and 14 grandchildren; one brother, Randy (Debra) Smith and sister Darlene (Gary) Peterson.

Services will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Grace LDS Stake Center. Family will visit with friends on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home and Tuesday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Church prior to services. Burial will be at the Grace Cemetery with military honors.

Dave; our dad, grandpa and husband, was a quiet simple man, a perfect example of integrity, hard work and honesty.
