Dean Eliason Gunnell, 95; of Soda Springs passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at his home.
Dean was born on January 26, 1925 in Soda Springs, Idaho the son of Thomas Poppleton and Effie Barbara Eliason Gunnell.
He married Phyllis Mathews and they were later divorced.
He married Karleen Loveland Gunnell on July 14, 1961 in Idaho Falls in the LDS Temple. Karleen passed away on February 12, 2016.
Dean lived in Alexander, Idaho at the family farm all of his youth. He later moved into Soda Springs, Idaho where he lived the rest of his life except for the years he served his country while in the U.S. Army and served during WWII.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Dean worked for 29 years at Monsanto with the last ten years as a lead man in the yard department.
He enjoyed following the stock market, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed the scenic outdoors, especially farm country and most of all he loved farming his own land.
Dean is survived by three sons and one daughter, Roy (Rosemary) Gunnell of St. George, UT, Kent (Christine) Gunnell of Burley, Idaho, Bruce Gunnell, Cindy (Ellis) Butterfield of West Valley City, UT. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Mark Gunnell, Michelle Lomu, Daniel Gunnell, David Gunnell, Brooklynn Smith, Camille Heiner, Bridger Gunnell, Landen Gunnell, Sherida Hosie, Conan Butterfield and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers and 8 sisters, Velma Jeanette Gunnell, Edna Gunnell, Barbara Emmaline Gunnell Shaw, Elva Gunnell, Thomas Russell Gunnell, Dewey Eliason Gunnell, Addie June Gunnell, Emma Relda Gunnell, Bonnie Jean Gunnell Woodard, Carol Ruth Gunnell and twin great-granddaughters.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Hooper LDS Chapel in Soda Spring. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs with Military Honors.
