Dean Malmberg Mathews, 66, of Grace, passed away Tuesday April 8, 2008 in Salt Lake City, UT. He was born August 16, 1941 at Logan, UT the son of Grant Leon and Anna Malmberg Mathews. He was raised and educated in Providence, UT, graduating from South Cache High School. He lived in Grace, ID where he farmed for 40 years and in Hurricane UT the last two winters.
Dean married Leslie Alice Wood April 7, 1965 in the Logan LDS Temple.
He was a member of the Williams LDS Ward.. He served a fulltime mission to the Alaska Canadian Mission; councilor to the Mission President and various other callings.
He had served in the U S Army Reserves.
He was Vice President of the Last Chance Canal Company. He also served on the Caribou County Zoning and Planning Board and on the Idaho State Bear River Water Commission.
Dean enjoyed family, work, hunting and camping.
Dean is survived by his wife Leslie Alice Mathews, Grace, ID; 5 sons and 3 daughters and their spouses; Mark and Ann Mathews; Blair and Sherri Mathews, all of Grace, ID; Roy and Tawnya Mathews, Parawon, UT; Richard and Jodi Mathews, Bryant and Jodi Mathews, all of Grace, ID; Jaynann and Troy Lybbert, Bountiful, UT, Jana and Jake Forsgren, Logan, UT and Janenne and Ty McCurdy, Cedar City, UT. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, his Mother Anna Malmberg, Logan, UT. 3 brothers and 1 sister; Grant and Peggy Mathews, Dennis and Katie Mathews, Lynn and Tama Mathews, all of Logan, UT and Hilda and Blaine McBride, Bountiful, UT. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Jenny Fishbaugh.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, April 14th at Noon at the Thatcher-Williams LDS Ward Chapel. Burial was in the Lago Cemetery with Military Graveside services.
