IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dee
Bassett
June 3, 1936 – September 21, 2020
Loren Dee Basset, "Dee" of Grace, Idaho passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, September 21, 2020 after a long battle with illness and with family at his side. Dee was born June 3, 1936 to Loran Henry and Helen Marietta (Hansen) Bassett in Garden City Idaho. Dee was the oldest big brother to nine younger siblings.
Dee married his first wife Joyce Arletta Preece in 1954. Together they stayed in the area and had three children Teresa Lee Clark, Tom LaDee Bassett and Leslie Ann Osborne. They eventually divorced after 17 years together.
In 1971, Dee married Patricia (Pat) Marie Patterson of Colorado. Pat brought two children to their marriage, Wayne Larry Bredehoft and Rhonda Renae Cole. Dee and Pat later had two children together, Angela Nicole Lee and Bradley Dee Bassett.
Dee valued hard work above all. At the young age of 12, Dee began driving a coal truck to help his parents support their large family. His first job, of which he was quite proud, began when he was 12 years old. He drove a large coal truck and shoveled coal into hoppers all over the area. He enjoyed this job and the money he made. This led him to leave school for full time employment after completing the 8 th grade in Soda Springs, Idaho.
Dee later worked for Commonwealth erecting base towers for powerlines. The work was intense and took him away from home for weeks at a time. After traveling with the company for a number of years, Dee decided it was time to return home to his family and the work he loved, mechanics. Dee was a "Ford man" who spent the majority of his adult life as a mechanic to personal vehicles and Farm Equipment in his own shop and parts store in Grace Idaho. Dee became an avid "old car" collector and loved to restore vehicles from days gone by. He was known for having a collection of favorite old cars including a 1959 Ford Flip-Top Convertible, 1939 Ford Coupe, model A and what the kids laughingly call his very favorite, "the weenie wagon," a 1974 station wagon.
Dee was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pat, his children Angela Lee and Teresa Clark and his siblings, Alvin, Lovell, Wendy, Connie, Geraldine and Beverly.
Dee is survived by his children, Tom (Kelly) Bassett of Soda Springs, Leslie (Mike) Osborne of Grace, Wayne (Tina) Bredehoft of Grace, Rhonda Cole (Pocatello) and Brad (Tamra) Bassett of Pocatello and 30 grand and great-grand grandchildren, and his brothers, Curtis, Ted and Shuell Bassett.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 1 p.m. at the Central Cemetery. Family will visit with friends on Thursday morning from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Sims Funeral Home prior to going to the cemetery.
