Obituary

On January 11, 2010 Dewey B. Hansen went to meet his eternal companion. Dewey passed away at his residence in Grace, Idaho; the same home where he was born on November 26, 1920, to Hans Peter Hansen and Nelsina Bergquist Hansen.

Dewey was the youngest of nine children. He attended grade school at the Telluride School near the Grace Power Plant. The mode of transportation was either walking or horseback. Following Dewey's graduation from Grace High School he began working in Roghar's General Mercantile. While he was working at Roghar's store a young teacher caught his eye. June Curtis and Dewey were married on May 25, 1945 in the Logan LDS Temple.

Dewey dedicated his love for life in serving others. He served in the Young Men's organizations, Elders Quorum Presidency's, Seventies, High Priest Group Leaders, and Executive secretary to Bishop George Kimball. Dewey was president of the Grace Senior Citizens for many, many years. If there was a need to have food prepared, he was there to oversee it from start to finish. Dewey also greatly enjoyed being able to serve the Latino population in the Grace area with many of their basic needs by helping the procure beans, transportation, money transfers, airline ticket help, phone calling, etc, etc. They, in turn, loved and helped him back with his irrigation systems, lawn mowing, gardening, gleaning potatoes, snow removal, visits, and anything else he needed.

At one time Dewey owned City Cash Market (Sam's Market). He later went to work for Monsanto, retiring in 1983. After retirement he worked as a butcher in Grace. Dewey always had a love of shopping, especially for groceries. He could tell you the best bargains from Pocatello to Logan.

Dewey enjoyed cooking and sharing his food, as well as garden produce, with others. At Christmas time he shared his candy making skills with many people in the community. He loved having a large flower garden so he could give flower bouquets to others.

Dewey was preceded in death by his wife, son Brian, parents, sisters (Melva, Hilda, LaVeda, Frances, Sarah, Vonda, and Lillie) and lastly his only brother, Adolph.

Dewey is survived by three children: Sena Ann (Van) Gunnell of Soda Springs; Curtis Verl (Charlene) Hansen of Boise, Idaho; and Thomas Ray (Ann) Hansen, of Sandy, Utah. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 16th at Noon at the Grace LDS Stake Center with Bishop Craig Wilker conducting. Interment was in the Grace Cemetery.
