IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dianne Elizabeth
Roberts Toolson
August 21, 1938 – March 4, 2023
Dianne Elizabeth Roberts Toolson, a cherished longtime resident of Bancroft, Idaho passed away March 4, 2023 at the age of 84.
She was born in Winchester, Massachusetts on August 21, 1938, to Donald and Geraldine Louise (Spencer) Roberts. She was the oldest of four children, having two younger brothers and a sister. Her brother Donald has fond memories of growing up together. Dianne graduated from Winchester High School, where she was an active member in the theater group called Curtain & Cue. She also played in a drum & bugle corps of close to 50 people who would perform at many parades in nearby Boston. After graduation she worked as a file clerk in Boston for an insurance company. Dianne left Massachusetts and made her way towards Bancroft, Idaho in 1963. She met her husband of 44 years while working at Ma Howard's Café in 1967. She married Harold (Hal) Toolson Jr. on December 2, 1972. Together they served and supported the community for over four decades at the Toolson Store. Dianne was an icon in the community, who cared about the people. She could remember their names and what they were doing even if it had been 2 weeks, 2 months, 2 years, or 2 decades since she saw you last, and she always asked about your family. Dianne read the paper faithfully and knew all the community comings and goings, even if the farthest she felt comfortable traveling was across the street to the post office. Dianne loved cats, and fed many strays at her back door, and loved them all as her own. Dianne had a beautiful soul, a bright smile, and her shoulders would bounce just a little when she would put her hand to her mouth and chuckle. Dianne and Hal did not have children of their own; instead, they cared for and loved the children of our community. Dianne spent endless hours patiently counting out penny candy and taking care of the children roaming throughout the store. Dianne was loved, and will be remembered by too many to count.
Dianne was preceded in death by her father, Donald Roberts, her mother, Geraldine Louise (Spencer) Roberts, her younger sister, Geraldine (Roberts) Blais, her youngest brother, Thomas Roberts, and her husband, Harold (Hal) Toolson Jr.
Dianne is survived by her younger brother Donald Spencer Roberts of Arlington, Massachusetts, nieces Alison Elizabeth Roberts of Arlington, MA and Claire (Blais) Santarelli of Wakefield, MA, and nephew David Blais of Oceanside, CA.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 18th at Noon in the Bancroft LDS Chapel, 311 Main St., Bancroft, ID.
