Obituary

Dixie Lee Tingle Bolton, 87, of Soda Springs, Idaho passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at her daughter's home in Lindon, Utah.

Dixie was born on August 20, 1932 in Hailey, Idaho to Howard and June Tingle. Dixie grew up in Salmon, Idaho but lived at times in Challis, Idaho and the Seattle, Washington area. After high school, she went to Rick's College (we think) and soon met Merlin Bolton who was a student at Idaho State University. Dixie and Merlin were married on July 3, 1951. Dixie and Merlin lived in Pocatello, Idaho Falls, Clarkston/Lewiston, Reseda, Simi Valley, and Provo before retiring and moving back to Soda Springs in 1996.

In each place that Dixie lived, she was of service to those around her and made her home the gathering place for her children's friends by providing chocolate chip cookies, a swimming pool, and a listening ear. As a result, she took in many stray youth, teenagers, dogs, and untold numbers of neighbors. There were times in the swimming pool days when there would be bodies sleeping on the front room floor that one had to step over and for whom Dixie would call parents to let them know where their kid was. We have received numerous emails, Facebook posts, Instagram comments, and even regular letters noting the many ways that Dixie had made a difference in the lives of those around her.

Dixie is survived by her brother, Tom Tingle, children, Doug, Kent, Jill, and Jan, eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and a bevy of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dixie was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin Bolton, and her parents, Howard and June Tingle.

Funeral services will be held at the Soda Springs LDS 1st Ward Chapel (361 South 3rd Street East, Soda Springs, ID) on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 1:00PM. There will be a viewing preceding the funeral from 11:30AM – 12:30PM. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs.
