Don Byrd Harris, 76, of Thatcher, Idaho passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at his home.
Don was born on June 12, 1936 in Soda Springs, Idaho the son of Franklin Berdean and Dawna Lynne Cox Harris.
He lived most of his life in Thatcher except for one year in Visalia, CA, and one year in Tacoma, WA.
Don Graduated from Grace High School in 1954 and then continued his education at the University of Idaho where he graduated in Ag Ed in 1958.
He married Norma Jane Callender on August 23, 1958 in Boise, Idaho. Their marriage was latter solemnized in the Logan Temple in October of 1995.
He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had held many callings such as Ward & Stake Dance Director, Young Men Activity Counselor, Varsity Activity Leader, Ward Choir Member and 20 years in Clerk's office.
Don was and EMT driver for 19 years and was President of the Gentile Valley Land and Cattle Co. for 21 years and also had served as the President of the Gentile Valley Irrigation Co. He ranched in Thatcher for 53 years.
He obtained his private pilot's license in 1964 and loved flying. He also enjoyed skiing, golfing, and waterskiing. He loved music and sang in many choirs and quartets.
Don is survived by his wife Norma Harris, and one son, Jeremy and Amelia Harris of Preston, ID, and three granddaughters. He is also survived by two sisters Dawna Karine Harris Olsen of Grace and Laurie Harris of Grace and close friends Eulalio Plancarte and Family and Felipe Plancarte. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Carolyn Jensen.
Services will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Noon at the Thatcher-Williams Ward Chapel in Niter. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday evening from 6 p.m.to 7 p.m. at the Church and also on Thursday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Church prior to servcies. Burial will be in the Thatcher Cemetery.
