Obituary

Dorothy Ackerman, 81, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2020, after complications from a stroke. This "illness of love" gave her family the opportunity to surround and in turn serve her during this time. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilford "M" Ackerman.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Marilyn, Darrell (Pam), Valerie (Greg), James, John (Patty), Mike (Heather), Russ (Kathleen), Vince (Michelle), Amy (George), Kathleen (Lars), and Cheryl (John), and her 58 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She is survived by one brother, Maurice LeFevre, in-laws, cousins, and nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was born and raised in Spry, Utah, and graduated from Panguitch High School. She married Wilford (Bill) Ackerman in 1957. She and Bill always wanted 12 children, but were blessed with only 11. While living in Juneau, Alaska, Bill passed away in 1979, shortly after being diagnosed with stomach cancer. The youngest, Cheryl, was just 16 months old. Soon after his death, Dorothy moved to Bancroft, Idaho, and with the help of this wonderful close-knit community, and Bill's brother and wife, Gerald and Valerie Ackerman, raised the eight children still at home.

Dorothy is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and embraced the callings she was asked to do, and the service she was involved with. Dorothy served a church mission for 18 months in the Mississippi Jackson mission. Dorothy was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and volunteered in Chesterfield, a historic pioneer town not far from Bancroft, and in lots of "other duties as assigned," never sitting idle for very long to help where she could help, and serve who she could serve.

We miss you, already, Mom. Until we meet again.

Behold Thy Mother
(John 19:27)

No love in mortality comes closer to approximating the pure love of Jesus Christ than the selfless love a devoted mother has for her child.

Jeffrey R. Holland Oct 2015

Our dear mother has brought her 11 children and over a hundred others that call her Mother, Grandma, and Great-Grandma closer to the Lord because of her sweet example.

Adapted from Mosiah 3:19(Book of Mormon)

She has truly become a........saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and (has become) as a child; submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit (to challenge her)......

We will all seek to join and rejoice with you, Dear Mother, when it is "Our Time".
