IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy Mae
Gates
April 14, 1932 – November 7, 2020
On Saturday, November 7, 2020, Dorothy Mae Gates, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 in Pocatello, Idaho.
Dorothy was born in 1932, in Pocatello, Idaho. She was raised on Washington Street with her twin sister Donna, and her two older sisters, Blanche and Beverly. Her parents, Louis and Elizabeth Dunn, worked hard to provide a good life for the family.
After graduation from Pocatello High School, she worked for several years as an operator for the telephone company. Eventually, she moved on to her true passion, floral design at Pocatello Greenhouse and then to Chase Floral in Soda Springs where she enjoyed designing beautiful arrangements for the community.
She married her first husband, Marcus Jones in 1952. where they lived on their ranch on Chubbuck road and raised two children, Michael and Tari. In 1974, Dorothy married Clem Walker and moved to the Soda Springs/Grace area for the next 36 years. Clem passed away in 1998. Two years later, Dorothy met and married Leon Gates. They settled in Lava Hot Springs, surrounded by their yard and charming garden plus many much-loved animals.
Through her married years, she camped, water skied, hiked and gardened. She enjoyed traveling, especially in Arizona during the colder months. One of her favorite joys was dancing…and if you'd asked her (when she was a bit younger) she would have danced you under the table…and maybe even on top!
Dorothy liked people, she enjoyed socializing with young or old. She could be kookie and funny, breaking into song or yodeling, the yodeling was always a bit of a surprise in the midst of strangers. She cared about people, rooted for the underdog and loved all animals, donating to numerous animal organizations over the years. She ended-up with a special fondness for cats.
Dorothy was a life-long member of the LDS church which provided much comfort over her life.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Albert Dunn, Elizabeth Bowen Dunn; two sisters, Blanche Atkinson and Beverly Ames; husbands, Marcus Jones, Clem Walker, Leon Gates.
She is survived by her sister, Donna Murray; Children, Michael M. Jones, Tari L. Price, nieces, nephews and many grand nieces/nephews.
