Obituary

Dwight Arthur Lakey, passed away surrounded by his family and best friend, Doc Young, on January 16, 2021 after a short illness.

Dwight was born on October 17, 1945 to Ezra and Faye Lakey in Soda Springs. He was the third of five children.  He graduated from Soda Springs High School and went on to further his education at Idaho State University, Ricks College, and finally Brigham Young University. He served in the National Guard for six years and was stationed out of Preston, ID.

He was raised on the family farm, which he loved and devoted his life to. His greatest joy was his family and being able to work alongside his father, brother, and two sons. He was blessed to be able to actively farm throughout this last season, ending the year with one of the best crops of his lifetime! He was a respected member of the agricultural community and served on many boards and committees.

Dwight became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while in college. He then married Teresa (Terre) Jean Tipton, for time and all eternity on August 5, 1967 in the Idaho Falls temple. They were blessed with four children; two daughters and two sons.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Terre Lakey, his children, David (Tracy) Lakey, Soda Springs; Lisa (Don) Smith, Soda Spring; Lesley (Josh) Egbert, Helena, MT; and Daniel (Marie) Lakey, Soda Springs, as well as 10 grandchildren and one great grandson. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry (Connie) Lakey and sister Julie Lakey, both of Soda Springs. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ezra and Faye Lakey, sister Lois Johnson, and brother Loney Lakey.

He loved spending time with his family and doing outdoor activities, such as camping, hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. He enjoyed watching his kids in all their activities and was at every game. He also enjoyed watching the Utah Jazz and any western he could find on TV. He loved restoring and showing old cars and won several awards for his '71 Chevelle SS.
