Obituary

Earline Gloray (Gloria) Meacham Smith Bunker Sprague Williams, 102 years old and a7 months old, passed away, Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Quinn Meadows Rehab Center in Pocatello, Idaho. What a glorious reunion it must have been in heaven with the Savior, Jesus Christ and her beloved one who preceded her in death.

Earline was born November 1, 1922, to John Edward Meacham and Julia Marie Haynes in Lago, Idaho. She was the youngest of the 9 children and the last to leave mortality. Her siblings, oldest to youngest are Edward Thomas Meacham, LaVira "Vi" Meacham Cox Smith, Elvin Meacham, Marjorie Beatrice Meacham Frew Grosshans Benavidez, Mildred "Millie" Venetta Dee Meacham Burke, Iris Veldeva Hogan Bullock, Edsel Meacham Prescott Rosales, and Lorraine Meacham Bullock.

She attended grade school in Lago, Idaho and graduated from Thatcher High School. She met Merlin Robbins Smith when he was a senior and she was a freshman. Her forever sweetheart waited for her until she graduated, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on October 8, 1941. They made their home on a ranch in the north end of Thatcher, Idaho. Together they had 2 sons and eventually daughters-in-law whom she loved very much. In their early marriage, she and Merlin lived on the farm/ranch in Thatcher with Merlin's parents, Elmer and Jane Smith. LaGrande Smith was born in the Smith family home on a wintery day when a blizzard was raging and snow was deep. Merlin was drafted into the army during World War 2. While Merlin was serving his country, Earline and LaGrande welcomed their youngest child, Terry Meacham Smith, who was later born on a pleasant summer evening at the hospital in Soda Springs, Idaho.

Earline was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints throughout her life. She served in many church callings and especially loved music. She enjoyed working with the mutual age young women. She led choirs, was a ward and stake chorister, formed and led men's coral group. "The Gem Notes" and others. She served as an ordinance worker in the Las Vegas and Logan Temples. She learned to be a good cook and housekeeper from Grandma Jane. Music was a beacon in Earline's life. She played the piano and organ with grace and talent. Her gift and love of music allowed her to teach piano lessons where she helped many family members and others and built relationships with many community members who still remember her fondly. She loved to help her students reach toward their highest potential. She also helped Mr. Shaw at the Grace High School with his music classes. She and Merlin were both very musically inclined and sang duets throughout much of Idaho and many other states. They even sang on TV! She sang in quartets and trios too.

Music carried Earline through the heartbreaking loss of 4 beloved husbands and a son. Broken hearted Earline played the piano well into the night after the premature death of Merlin in 1984. After Merlin's death, she eventually ended up in Overton, Nevada with her sister Millie, where in 1986 she married a kindhearted man, Senator Vernon Earl Bunker from Logandale, NV. Together they enjoyed horse riding and visits to various areas, including the State Capital.

In 1994 she married Charles "Wayne" Sprague, a former schoolteacher whom she had been introduced to by Vernon, before his passing. Earline always thanked Vernon for having a hand in finding Wayne. Wayne and Earline served 2 missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, to California Roseville 12/1994-6/1996 and Virginia Richmond, 11/2000-5/2002. Wayne and Earline moved to Grace, Idaho in 2005. January 4, 2007, Earline's youngest son, Terry Meacham Smith passed away from heart complications. Wayne passed away the following month, February 27, 2007, after suffering from Alzheimer's.

August 11, 2007, Earline married Grant Williams, a rancher she had known from her early years. They enjoyed telling jokes, sightseeing around the Grace valley, and time with family. No stranger to grief and loss, Earline buried her fourth husband in February of 2011. Through her grief and loss, Earline was blessed to have gained several stepchildren and their families. She loved them all.

Earline lived a very long and good life. She is survived by her son, LaGrande Smith, all of her 6 biological grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren and most of her step grandchildren, step step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and parents in law, all of her sibling and their spouses, her 4 husbands, son Terry and daughters in law (Rosa Gay Bennett and Ann Harker) Smith and many others.
