Obituary

Edith Ione (Edie) Tracy, 77, of Soda Springs, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at the Caribou Memorial Hospital and Living Center.
Edie was born November 2, 1930 at Mackay, Idaho the daughter of Luther Joel and Alice Murray Deck. She was raised and educated in Pocatello, graduating from Pocatello High School. She also attended several night classes at ISU. She moved to Soda Springs in 1970 with her husband Buzz.
She married LaValle Van Leuven in 1948 at Downey, Idaho. They were later divorced. She married Kermit C. Christensen in 1953 at Pocatello, Idaho and divorced in 1958
Edie married T. L. Buzz Tracy August 9, 1968 at Pocatello, Idaho. Buzz passed away in 1996.
She was a member of the Methodist Church.
Edie worked for Farmers Insurance Regional Office in Pocatello for 16 years working in Commercial Lines as operational Controller Clerk. She was office manager for Paul Roberts Machine Shop in Soda Springs for many years.
Edie was a member of Bantello Toastmistress Club and involved in politics serving in the Pocatello Democratic Women's Club as president. She also was a Bannock County State Council Women representative. Edie was elected in 1981 as a write-in candidate for the Soda Springs City Council and was the first woman to be elected to that position. She was a council member until January of 1993, when she was elected to the Caribou County Commission. She was elected to serve as the city council president from 1982 to 1993. When elected as a Democrat to the Caribou County Commission in 1993, she was also the first woman to serve as a county commissioner in Caribou County. Edie also faithfully served as a precinct committeewoman for the Democratic Party in Caribou County for many years and served as the Caribou County Democratic Chairperson for an extended period of time. She was also the county delegate to the Idaho Democratic State Convention.
Edie is survived by a son Val and Kat Van Leuven of Pocatello, ID; a daughter Deena Kay Fix, Beaverton, OR; and grandchildren; Wm. M. "Bill" Fix, Pocatello, ID; Shane and Tracy Van Leuven (Justice, Madison and Jacob); Kristen and Tyler Pond (Ali, Mckay, Brywn, Dania and Taylen); Roschelle and Brodee Van Leuven all of Boise, ID; and Nick and Juelie Van Leuven of Redlands, CA.
She was also preceded in death by grandchildren Connie Johnson Van Leuven and David Fix.
Cremation services were conducted on February 14, 2008.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of her life will be held on Thursday June 26, 2008 at Noon at Hooper Springs north of Soda Springs. The family suggests donations may be made to the Caribou Senior Citizens Center.
