Edwin Parley Smith Jr., age 83, of Thatcher, Idaho passed away Monday morning, April 17, 2017, surrounded by family and his eternal sweetheart. He left this world peacefully knowing his destination and love of his Savior that would greet him. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 20, 1933. Edwin (Ted) was the third of three children born to Edwin Parley Smith and Lillie Irene Barton. He was raised in the beautiful Thatcher Valley, where he spent his life working the family ranch. In addition to ranching, he worked at several local plants. His early life was spent on horseback working the family livestock and farm. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in the Idaho mountains he loved. He will always be remembered for the fresh pine bough wreaths that he made each Christmas season for family and friends. Ted married his high-school sweetheart, Willadene Runea Hegstrom, October 2, 1952, in the Logan, Utah Temple. They were blessed with 7 children. He is survived by Cindy (Jeff) Norris Orem, Utah; Sharee (Ron) Ker Provo, Utah; Bart (Shawna) Smith Rexburg, Idaho; Marcia (Scott) Crump Taylorsville, Utah; Jill (Glenn) Christensen Mayfield, Utah; Todd (Ann) Smith Gilbert, Arizona; son-in-law Sullivan Love Alpine, Utah; sister Barbara Lloyd Grace, Idaho; 26 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a baby brother (Dale), a daughter (DeAnn Love) and granddaughter (Amber Love). His faith and works in the gospel and in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints never wavered. He served in several callings including Elder's Quorum President, Ward and Stake Mission Leader, High Council member, Counselor in the Stake Presidency, and for nearly 10 years in the Logan, Utah Temple as an Ordinance Worker. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017, in the Thatcher/William's Ward Building in Niter, Idaho. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and on Thursday evening April 20th from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the same location under the direction of Sims Funeral Home. Listen to service
