Obituary

Elda Aramitha Petersen, 93, was reunited in Heaven with her husband and other loved ones who have passed, on October 11, 2024.

She was born in Weston, Idaho on November 25, 1930, to Jesper and Aramitha Briggs Rasmussen. She was the 3rd of five children.

Elda was raised and attended school through 8th grade in Weston. She graduated 8th grade from the Silver Star, one room school house, in Weston. This was the last year that the school operated. She graduated from Clifton High School in 1947 at the age of 16.

She married Ivan Wayne Petersen on June 1, 1949 in Pocatello, Idaho. The proposal question was not "Will you marry me" but instead "can you cook?" yes, she could cook. They were sealed in the Logan Temple July 27 1960.

She learned the value of hard work at a young age. Her father took her to the sugar beet fields when she was 5 years old and taught her how to thin beets. After that she was either thinning, hoeing or topping beets for the rest of her childhood. She went to work, after graduation, at David E Davis Coal and Feed store in Preston as a bookkeeper. Elda and Wayne welcomed 3 rowdy boys and one delightful daughter into their home, where she loved and cherished them unconditionally. When the children were older and beginning to leave home, she went to work as a certified Nurses Assistant at the Caribou Memorial Nursing Home. She lovingly gave care and comfort to the residents there for 12 years. By this time in her life her legendary cooking skills were well known to more than just her husband. She was asked to be the Bakery Manager at Lew and Dan's grocery store, where she worked for 8 years. She was a great homemaker and always filled her home with love. She made sure the needs of her children were well met. She spent many hours watching baseball, basketball, football and any other type of ball her kids were participating in. She was our best cheerleader.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served faithfully in many callings. Every possible Primary calling including President, many Mutual callings including Young Women's President but the ones she enjoyed most were serving with her husband as stake missionaries and Senior Single Adult Representatives. She was an example of hard work and loving service to all but mostly to her children and extended family.

We wish to thank the employees of Quail Ridge Care Home and Quinn Meadows Care Home for the loving care they gave to Elda the last few months of her life.

Elda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She is survived by her 4 children Ronald Wayne (Sally) of Chubbuck, Doyle (Pam) of Inkom, Scott (Mary) of Preston and Diane (Troy) of Salt lake, 20 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Funeral services will be at noon on Friday October 18, 2024 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints  281 E Hooper Ave. Soda Springs Idaho under the direction of Sims Funeral Home, Soda Springs Idaho
