IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eleanor Morrell
Balls
September 13, 1922 – July 26, 2022
Eleanor Morrell Balls peacefully passed from mortality on Tuesday, July 26 th , 2022, at Edgewood Assisted Living Center in Soda Springs, Idaho.
Eleanor was born September 13 th , 1922, in Moroni, Utah to Ernest Morrell and Margaret Blackhurst Morrell. An older brother, Wallace, died from leukemia when he was 5. Two younger brothers, Grant and Ed, also joined the family.
Before Eleanor was 9, her parents divorced, and the children moved with their mother to Salt Lake City. Her mother, Margaret worked hard to support the children, and later, Eleanor's grandmother and aunt also lived with them.
Eleanor enjoyed her brothers, but always wished she could have had a sister. She consoled herself with the thought that she could have daughters when she married.
Eleanor graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City when she was 16. She attended LDS Business College for one year, and also worked for the Salt Lake Tribune in the advertising department for several years. She moved to California to work, and lived with an aunt and uncle for a couple of years, but after WW II broke out, she wanted to return home to Salt Lake City.
She met Harold Balls at a church dance and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple in May of 1947. Moving to southeast Idaho was an adjustment for her. Their home in Davisville was four miles from town, but friendly neighbors and Harold's large family made her feel welcome. They soon had four healthy active sons join their family, Steven, Redge, and twins Garth and Wayne.
The boys learned the value of work by milking cows, running the tractor and helping with the large garden they raised. Because they were hard workers, they easily found work during the summers to pay for their schooling and missions.
Steven joined the Marines and served while the younger boys were preparing for missions. When Steven returned and was called to serve in Australia, all four boys were in the mission field at the same time.
As the boys returned from their missions, they each chose a lovely young lady to marry and Eleanor finally had her daughters.
Eleanor had a lovely alto voice and loved to sing in church or community choirs.
Eleanor was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Primary, Mutual, Relief Society and served a mission with Harold in the mission office in Baguio, Philippines, for 18 months, then also served in the Family Record Extraction Program in Salt Lake for 18 months.
Harold passed away in February, 2010, and after living on her own for 8 years, she decided it was time for assisted living. She moved into Edgewood Assisted Living in October of 2018, and was there until the time of her death.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law Jane Balls, Salt Lake City, Utah; Redge (Charlene) of Soda Springs, Idaho; Garth (LaVaun) Calgary, Alberta, Canada; and Wayne (Bonnie) from Mesa, Arizona.
She is survived by 25 grandchildren and 88 great-grandchildren.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her brothers, parents, husband, son Steven, and 4 infant great-granddaughters.
