Ellen Lloyd Maughan Sorensen, 103 years old, peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father on February 19, 2016. Ellen was born on October 18, 1912, in Central, Idaho, to Daniel Parkinson Maughan and Alice Haslam Lloyd, the third of nine children. Ellen spent the early years of her childhood in Wellsville, Utah and the majority in the Grace, Idaho area. Later, she teamed with her sister, Eva, as operators of a beauty shop. Ellen met her husband, Harry Doran Sorensen, at a dance in Bancroft, and they were married in the Logan Temple on November 12, 1940. They began their lives together as dry-land farmers in the 10 Mile Pass area northwest of Soda Springs. They are the parents of five sons, Rodger (Mary), Jay (Rosalind), Reid (Linda), Lynn (Cheryl), and Curtis (Annette). Ellen loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and spent many of her adult years sharing that love with anyone who would visit with her. She has served 5 full-time missions (one as a young adult, one with Harry, and three as a grandmother) for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, along with numerous "mini" missions. Ellen loved music, playing the piano, writing poetry and verse, and always keeping busy. She loved to stroll through the grocery stores looking for bargains, cooking and baking her delicious cinnamon rolls. She celebrated life with a love for family and for her Heavenly Father. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry, her five brothers (Raymond, Herman, Kenneth, Lloyd, and Roy), and one grandchild (Patricia). Survivors include her sisters (Eva, Melba, and Ruby), her five sons and their wives, 22 grandchildren, and 52 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 281 East Hooper Ave on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 1:00 PM. A viewing will be held two hours prior to the service from 11:00 to 12:45 PM. Interment will take place at the Fairview Cemetery at 148 South Main Street, Soda Springs, Idaho. We wish to extend our gratitude to all those who have assisted with Ellen's care and funeral arrangements.
