Ellis LaVar Watts, 74, passed away in October in Colorado Springs, CO. He was born in Soda Springs, ID, the son of Ellis Alanson and Vivian Mikesell Watts.
He grew up and attended school in Soda Springs and graduated from Soda Springs High School.
He attended Utah State University and graduated in 1960 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
LaVar married Noretta Welch in 1956 in the Logan, UT temple. They are the parents of 3 children. His wife Noretta, was his greatest treasure and he was totally dedicated to her.
They moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1961 where LaVar worked for Hewlett Packard. He was president of Pikes Peak Society of Manufacturing Engineers for several years. They have remained in Colorado Springs, where after retiring from HP LaVar has owned several businesses.
He was an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and Noretta served a 2 year mission at the Bishop storehouse in Colorado Springs and up until recently were temple workers at the Denver temple for over 11 years.
LaVar loved the outdoors and working with youth. He was a Scout Master for over 25 years in the Pikes Peak region. He was awarded the Leadership and Century member awards for many years after being Scout Master.
He is survived by his wife Noretta, one brother Ron Watts of Soda Springs, his children Natalie (Rick) Porter, Nathan (Kim) of Colorado Springs, Terry (Melissa) of Spring, TX. Eleven grandchildren, Kara (Dave) Bensfield, Ryan (Alyson) Porter, Tami (Bryce) Cayton, Nick, Maryha, Jordyn, Brennan, Collin, Courtnye, Justin, Devon. Five great-grandchildren. Besides his parents he was proceeded in death by his sister Gwen Dalrymple.
Services will be in Colorado Springs, CO on Thursday, November 3rd. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 5th, 1 pm at the Lund Cemetery in Lund, ID.
