Eva McLain Modersitzki, 91, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and neighbor passed away on July 21,2013 at the Caribou Memorial Living Center in Soda Springs Idaho
She was born October 22,1921 in Bancroft Idaho to Calvert David and Mary Loretta Smith McLain, She was the 6th child of ten children, Lewis, Willis, Russell, Darrell, Virda McAtee, Farrell Nielson, Hyrum, Afton Jones and Loretta Barney, all of whom have preceded her in death.
Eva grew up in the Bancroft area, attending school in Bancroft and graduating from North Gem High School. While in high school, one of her favorite activities was singing in a quartet with her best friends, Peggy Alley, Mavis Clark, and Loraine Johnson.
She married Wendall Seamons, they had one son, and were later divorced.
While she was working at Howard's Café, she met Fred Modersitzki. They were married December 6, 1945. Fred was the love of her life and together they raised their son, David. Fred and Eva were so proud of David and especially supportive of his athletic accomplishments.
Eva was a switchboard operator for the telephone company in Bancroft, then was transferred to the Soda Springs office. She retired from the telephone company in 1961.
She then worked in the business office at the old Soda Springs Hospital and helped move to the new Caribou Memorial Hospital under the administration of Pearl Fryer. She worked in the business office at CMH until her retirement.
Eva was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . She enjoyed teaching in the Sunday school and serving as a visiting teacher. Through the years she kept in touch with her " Sunday School kids". She was so interested in the youth of the valley, she was an avid North Gem fan, attending drama productions, music programs and athletic events. She and Fred could be found sitting on the bottom row, at the center court line of the Gymnasium at every basketball game. Certainly a good spot to help the referees, if needed. She had her own parking spot at the west end of the football field ready to honk for the NG touch downs. She was pleased to be recognized one year as "the North Gem Fan of the Year".
Eva loved to read, she would make a trip to the Library in Soda Springs every week or so to bring back a armful of books to read. She also was religious about doing her morning crossword puzzle in the Journal. She was not available to chat on the phone until her puzzle was finished every day. She also enjoyed doing handwork.
One of her favorite pastimes was playing cards with her Pinochle Club friends. She and her dear friends, had an organized club for over 50 years.
When her son David was born, she loved him so much, and often said she thought she could not love another child like she loved him. Then he blessed her with four grandchildren, whom she adored. They were always the top priority on her list. She and Fred took them on vacations, Santa even stopped at her house with special gifts for them. Eva loved being a grandmother and was involved in all the activities of her grandchildren, Lisa, Scott, Blake and Marc and their friends. One can only imagine how pleased she was, when her grandchildren and spouses came home with these more than perfect, great grandchildren…..and then the next generation of great great grandchildren.
She was a wonderful cook, her grandchildren will attest to that fact. She loved the neighborhood children and the 'county kids' stopping by, her candy dish was always ready, her freezer full of popsicles, and an extra place set at her table.
Eva is survived by one son, David (Karen) Modersitzki, four grandchildren, Lisa(Phil) Yost, Scott (Charlotte) Modersitsitzki, Blake(Sandy) Modersitzki and Marc(Marci) Modersitzki, 13 great grandchildren, and 7 great, great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Fredinand Modersitzki, her parents and her 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
We love you Oma. May you rest in peace until we meet again.
