Farrell Blaine Panting was born April 6, 1925 at the ranch in Soda Springs, Idaho. He died at the ranch in Soda Springs on February 4, 2011 at the age of 85. He is the son of Russell and Lettie Panting.
Blaine served in World War II serving as a radio operator in the Philippines where he earned a bronze star and in the occupation of Japan. He was proud to serve his country.
Blaine married Margaret Roper on May 8, 1950. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Utah LDS Temple on May 8, 1951. Shortly after their marriage they moved to the ranch in Trail Canyon east of Soda Springs. They lived there together for 60 years. They are the parents of three children; Rauhn (Nancy) of Malad, ID; Chad (deceased); Mary (Matt) Jensen of Ovid, ID. There are 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Blaine loved to work on the ranch. He especially liked to ride the range. One of the best days of the year was when he was able to hook-up the team to begin feeding the cows for the winter. One of the worst was the day he turned them out for the summer. He was totally content to work on the ranch and to tend to his many chores.
Blaine liked to follow the activities of his children and grandchildren. He never missed a ball game or activity they were in. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and all of their activities especially basketball and many cold spring high school rodeos and hot summer junior rodeos.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret, a son Rauhn and daughter Mary. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Chad, five sisters Virginia, June, Ursula, Gwen and Mearl, and two brothers Bud and Russell (died in infancy).
