Obituary

Fay R Hatch was born on September 17, 1943, in Soda Springs, Idaho at the Caribou County Hospital to Wayne and Marcelle Hatch. He passed away peacefully on June 22, 2023 in Soda Springs, Idaho.

Fay spent his early years in Chesterfield growing up on the banks of Toponce Creek. He entered North Gem elementary school and graduated from North Gem High School. School was not some of his happier years, but he particularly found an interest and was active in Thespians (Drama Class). He gained several pins and awards through his activity in many school productions.

After high school he was interested in fulfilling a building mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. That mission took him to California and Nevada where he helped construct three or four chapels. He enjoyed the work but wasn't that fond of the big city atmosphere and missed his life in Chesterfield. After his time on his mission, he had a short stay in the Army. This was really a test for him because of the difficulty of the physical training. He was not able to complete the training and was sent home after qualifying for some G.I. benefits. Fay also worked as a tow truck driver and enjoyed telling the wild and crazy stories of some of the interesting rescues he did night and day, seven days a week. He has still been in contact with people who became his close friends during his time in Rock Springs. Most of his working years were spent in the Gem Valley, in Chesterfield and Bancroft. Some of his favorite employers were not only employers but friends who became good friends, i.e. Wilson's Farm Service, KV Hansen Ranches, Knox Farms, Perkins Ranches and Thompson's Sod Farm.

His worship to God was quiet and private which included temple attendance in Idaho Falls and Mesa Arizona. He was able to attend a tour of the Pocatello Temple prior to its opening. His time in the saddle was his favorite time of any. There was little that he couldn't tell you about the mountain ranges that surround the Gem Valley. He has ridden horseback and rode a snow machine through all the mountains north of Haystack to the reservation line,  east to Cow Camp and south to Ten Mile Pass. Round up was particularly a great time of the year to show what he and his longtime friend Sorley, his horse, could do with the cattle.

We will cherish these memories. Fay was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Marcelle and his brother, Larry Rue. He is survived by his siblings Jerry (Kay) Hatch, MaryLue Snow, Lynn (Joyce) Hatch, Roy (Connie) Hatch and Candy Hatch along with many nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank all those who have helped care for Fay through the years. We would like to thank the nurses and staff with the Hands Of Hope and at Heritage of Soda Springs and a special thank you to Dr. Nita Weber.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 28th at 12 noon at the Chesterfield LDS Chapel with a visitation prior from 10:30-11:30. Burial will follow in the Chesterfield Cemetery.
