IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frederick Darrin
Sims
October 21, 1972 – December 5, 2022
Frederick "Darrin" Sims, passed away at his home on December 5, 2022 at the age of 50. He was born on October 21, 1972 in Ogden, Utah to Frederick Duayne and Mary Michelle Larsen Sims.
Darrin's family moved to Soda Springs in 1979. He graduated from Soda Springs High School in 1991. He served a 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints speaking Spanish in Dallas, Texas. Darrin attended college at Utah State University, Idaho State University, and graduated in 1998 from Mount Hood Community College in Gresham Oregon with a degree in Mortuary Science. Darrin has resided in Soda Springs, Idaho the majority of his life.
Darrin married Billikaye Minor on May 17, 1996 in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. He was a loving and devoted husband. They were blessed with five beautiful children: Frederick Kyle (25) Will Andrew (23), Katie Leigh (21), Wade D (18), and Khloe Kaye (9). His children were the light of his life. Some of his most treasured moments were with them. He loved to support his children through their sports, dance, and music recitals. He took pride in their accomplishments, education, and in their character and integrity. They each brought him so much joy.
As Darrin grew up, he worked for and served an apprenticeship for his best friend, mentor, and father, Duayne Sims. He admired his father and how he lived his life. He loved the way he believed in the sacredness of his profession in the funeral industry. Darrin sought to pattern his professional life after his beloved father's example. He worked for his father, who owned and operated Sims Funeral Home, from the time he was old enough to help until he and his wife, Billikaye, purchased the funeral home in 2009.
Darrin was appointed Caribou County Coroner on January 9, 2017 and was successfully elected to continue his service to the county in 2018 and reelected again in 2022. He felt honored to see the overwhelming support shown for him by the community reflected in poll reports.
Darrin loved his profession. He loved his community. He felt honored to be able to serve each family that entrusted him with their loved ones. One of Darrin's best personality traits was his ability to truly empathize with those he served. He made each family his top priority, and there was no time that he would not be available to them. He mourned with the families he served, and loved each one dearly. When someone needed something, he dropped everything to be there for them.
Darrin had many hobbies. Hunting, archery, fishing, shooting, golfing, gardening. He barbequed a mean steak, and there were summers that this was a nightly meal. Darrin could fix anything. He remodeled areas of his homes and made them look beautiful. He found joy in raising and training hound dogs to chase mountain lions, bears and racoons. Most of his cherished memories were in the hills with his sons and dearest friends.
Darrin was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings including Sunday School teacher, Boy Scout leader, Stake Young Men's presidency, and as a counselor in two different bishoprics. He was currently serving as the Elder's Quorum President in the Soda Springs 5th Ward. In his youth, Darrin earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America organization.
Darrin found great pride in his children choosing to follow the Savior closely. The joy he felt was immeasurable as his oldest four children entered the temple to prepare to serve missions and as they were sealed to their spouses. He had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and it was and will continue to be a great influence in his family's lives. It is one of the greatest desires of his heart to see his youngest daughter, Khloe, follow in the spiritual footsteps of her siblings when she comes of age.
Darrin loved to serve and was a member of the Soda Springs Lion's Club for 25 years, where he served in various leadership capacities.
Darrin is survived by his wife, Billikaye Sims, five children and their spouses, F. Kyle (Harper Gibbs) Sims, Preston, Idaho; Will Andrew (Kayla Gygi) Sims, Logan, Utah; Katie Leigh Sims (Spencer) Nelson, Logan, Utah; Wade D Sims, serving a mission in São Paulo, Brazil; Khloe Kaye Sims, Soda Springs, ID; one granddaughter, Sutton Ellie Sims and soon to be born Baby Girl Sims. He is survived by parents in law, Bill and Marcile Minor of Pocatello, Idaho. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, sisters, brothers and sisters in law, cousins and special friends he considered family.
Darrin is preceded in death by his parents, Duayne and Michelle Sims.
Funeral services will be held in Soda Springs at 361 South 3rd E, Bailey Creek LDS Church on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 12 noon.
