Gerald Ackerman, 81, of Burley, ID formerly of Bancroft, ID passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017. Gerald was born on June 21, 1936 in Central, Utah the son of Wilford Moroni and Amy Majorie Edwards Ackerman. He graduated from South Sevier High School in 1954 and also attended the University of Utah Technological School where he received a degree in electronics. He worked for Hercules Inc., in Salt Lake City, Utah, owned his own business for a few years and worked most of his life with AMI Semi-Conductors (ON Semi-Conductors) until he retired. Gerald served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years during the Korean Conflict where he traveled around the world twice visiting all but two continents. He married Valerie Marilyn Wilkinson on March 30, 1962 in the Manti Temple, Manti Utah. He had lived in Sandy, UT for 9 years and Bancroft, ID for 36 years before moving to Burley, Idaho for the past 8 years. Gerald was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings faithfully and was a Seventy and High Priest. He was a Bancroft City Councilman and was a member of the Republican Committee in Salt Lake and Bancroft. Gerald loved to hike and be outdoors. He always had a beautiful yard and garden. He wrote poetry and enjoyed drawing and working on his life history. He loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Valerie Ackerman of Burley, ID, one son Gerald J. and Camille Ackerman of Elko, NV, and five daughters, Gillian Jensen of Eugene, OR, Lesley Ackerman and David Brown of Boulder, CO, Carolyn and Callie Peterson of Jerome, ID, LeAnn and Steve Langedyke of Soda Springs, ID, Rebecca and Greg Hepworth of Burley, ID. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and his sisters Nita and Dale Eldredge of St. George, UT, Marcia and Rod Abramowski, of St. George, UT, Sally Ackerman of Provo, UT and Celia Ann and Ken Payne of Roy, UT and sister-in-law Dorothy Ackerman of Bancroft, ID. He was preceded in death by his brothers Wilford and Ronald and a sister Gerene and a son-in-law Michael Jensen. Services will be held on Saturday, October 21 at Noon at the Bancroft LDS Ward Chapel. Family will visit with friends on Saturday from 10-11:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Burial will be in the Bancroft Cemetery.
