Gerald V Benson passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2012 from complications during vascular surgery at the VA hospital in Salt Lake City, UT. He was 69 years old. He was a resident of Grace, Idaho. He is survived by his wife, Anna, and his two children, Cinniman Schwartz of Malad, ID and Bart and Coleen Benson of Grace. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Elsie Benson, and his baby sister. Jerry graduated from High School in Grace, Idaho and was a veteran of the Navy and served in the Pacific. He married Pauline Wheatley and they had two children, Bart and Cinniman. He worked with his father in the construction business until moving to Tremonton in 1970 where he worked for Thiokol as an inspector of solid rocket motors. He and Pauline were later divorced and after ending his career with Thiokol he moved back to Grace to retire. While there he traveled to Russia and married Anna Sakovitch who shared with him the rest of his life. Jerry was friendly with his neighbors and spent many hours assisting others with yard work and snow removal. He and Anna found joy in their little dog Teddy and in tours of the beautiful Gem Valley in its many moods and seasons. He enjoyed working on his computer. Earlier in his life, he spent time with his family riding snow machines, touring on his Harley Davidson, and later 4-wheelers. He liked to hunt and fish and spend time on his boat with friends and family. He appreciated being in the mountains. He kept in close contact with his children and followed with great interest the growth of his grand children and lately his great grandchildren. He always welcomed their visits with many smiles. He especially enjoyed having family and friends over for barbecues.
