Obituary

Gerald Olester Tolman passed away Sunday afternoon, April 9, 2017 at his home in Riverside, Idaho with his family by his side. He was born September 12, 1935 in Bancroft, Idaho and was the second of six children born to Olester and Urilla Nelson Tolman. His family lived in Boise for a brief time and then in Salt Lake City, Utah before moving back to Bancroft in 1946. Gerald started school in Salt Lake City and graduated from North Gem High School in 1954. He attended Ricks College before going on an LDS mission to the Gulf States in 1955. He married Ruby Alberta Pincock in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on September 18, 1958 after which they both attended and graduated from Utah State University. Upon the death of his father in 1962 they purchased the Bancroft Milling and Feed Co. from his mother which they operated until October 1998 when the business was closed. Gerald and Alberta then filled a two-year LDS mission in the England Leeds Mission from October 1998 until September 2000. They filled another mission at Adam-ondi-Ahman from March 2002 through September 2003. Their last mission was to the New York Rochester Mission with special assignment to the Hill Cumorah Church History sites in and around Palmyra New York. Gerald served in various church callings including bishop for five and one-half years. He served on the Bancroft City Council and was active in the Caribou County Republican Party. He served for many years on the Chesterfield Foundation Board including two years as president. He enjoyed camping with the family and wood working. He is survived by his wife, Alberta; six children, Travis and Leisa Tolman, Anne and Dodd Price, David and Shelli Tolman, Nathan and Diane Tolman, Marlynn and Brett Williams, and Ruby and Carl Holm, two sisters, MyrtleRae and DeLoy Parker, and Kathleen and Stanley Wistisen, three brothers, Rosco and NaDine Tolman, Marvin and Judy Tolman, and Ronald and Louise Tolman, thirty-one living grandchildren, two deceased grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at the Bancroft LDS Church, April 14, 2017 at noon. A viewing will be held at the Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs, Idaho, Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Friday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Church prior to services. The family would like to express a special appreciation to the Access Home Care and Hospice for their tender assistance. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Chesterfield Foundation or the LDS Missionary Fund.
