Obituary

Gladys Leola Grimm Nelson, 91, of Bancroft, Idaho passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at her home. Gladys was born to David William and Ella Merrick Grimm on March 28, 1922, the youngest of 3 children. Gladys was born on the family homestead in the North Canyon area of Bancroft. She has lived in the Bancroft area her entire life. Gladys received her early education in the Kelly area of Bancroft and graduated from North Gem High School. She married Richard Nelson on February 25, 1941. This union was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple in June 1971. They are the parents of two children, Erma Beth and Stephen J. Dick and Gladys raised their family on the farm where she grew up an d Gladys continued to reside on the same farm until the time of her passing. Gladys has spent many hours working with her husband on the farm, hauling grain, working in the potatoes, raising chickens and selling eggs commercially. She also worked 13 years at the Valley View Nursing Home in Lava Hot Springs until it closed, and then continued to work for an additional 8 years at the Caribou Memorial Nursing Home in Soda Springs until her retirement. Gladys is a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and has served as a teacher in Primary, Many years as a visiting teacher and visiting teaching supervisor. She continued, until the present time, as an active member of the Camp Squaw Creek DUP. Gladys enjoyed reading and over the years has made many beautiful crocheted items. She was a long-time member of the pinochle club and served more than 60 years on the Kelly and Bancroft precinct election committees. She was an avid Utah Jazz fan. Gladys has enjoyed traveling and has visited many sites throughout the United States and Canada, but many of her fondest memories were cookouts in the mountains surrounding the Bancroft area with family and friends. The past few years she continued to enjoy activities with the Senior Citizens and lunch with her longtime friends. Gladys has been known as "Happy" her entire life. This is a reflection of her attitude and zest for living. Gladys is survived by her daughter, Erma Beth (Jurgen) Hixon of Nashport, Ohio, daughter-in-law Rebecca Nelson, Smithfield, Utah, 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Lois Grimm Wolford Bronson, 1 brother William O'Brien Grimm, husband Richard Nelson, and her son Steven J. Nelson formerly of Pocatello. Services will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Noon at the Chesterfield LDS Chapel. The family will visit with friends on Thursday evening from 7-8 p.m. at the Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs and on Friday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Church prior to services. Burial will be in the Bancroft Cemetery. Listen to services:
