IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Glen
Bright
July 29, 1930 – November 10, 2021
Glen Mathews Bright, 91, of Soda Springs, Idaho, passed away at his home on November 10, 2021. He was born on July 29, 1930, in Richmond, Utah, to parents Adrun and Sadie Mathews Bright. He grew up in Richmond with his siblings, Clyde, Dean, Wanda, Martile, and Ruth. He graduated from North Cache High School and proceeded to enlist in the United States Army. He left Richmond for bootcamp and trained to serve as a mechanic during the Korean War.
In 1950, he met his wife and sweetheart, Sharon Herd, at a dance. They were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan, Utah LDS temple on December 1, 1950. Shortly thereafter, Glen and Sharon moved to Soda Springs, Idaho, where they remained residents for the rest of their lives. He found employment at Monsanto, where he established a life-long career, performing many educational hours in St. Louis, Missouri and even consulting after his retirement.
In 1953, their first daughter, Jeri Lin, was born. In 1955, their second child, Gordon Glen, was born. Tammie followed in 1957, as did Diane in 1960. In 1964, their twins, Jan and Julie, were born, at which point, he stated, "as soon as the girls start coming in twos, we're done." He found joy in coaching his girls and taking them camping and on trips.
Some of his hobbies included softball, coaching, hunting, fishing, dancing, throwing horseshoes, attending tea time with his friends at Ender's Café, and spending time after retirement with Sharon in Overton, Nevada, and with his family at his lot in Palisades, Wyoming. He was the ultimate handyman and could fix just about anything with what he had on hand. He could build everything from birdhouses to treehouses. Glen was a habitual prankster and jokester. He enjoyed fun-lovingly teasing everyone from his grandchildren to his waitresses.
Glen was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sharon Herd Bright; his son, Gordon Glen; his parents, Adrun and Sadie Bright; his two brothers and his three sisters; and his son-in-law, Brad Smith. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law (Jeri Lin and Jack Sturm, of Soda Springs; Tammie B. Smith, of Soda Springs; Diane and Kenny Daniels, of Soda Springs; Jan Bright-Moran and Blaise Moran, of Tehachapi, California; and Julie Bright and Donny Harding, of Evans, Colorado); as well as 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
He will be remembered as one of the last original patriarchs of Soda Creek Drive and will be greatly missed by the community and his family for his smile, his helping hands, and his sense of humor. Dearest husband, father, and grandfather, find peace and relief of pain with our heavenly father and mother. Watch over us all. We love you and will miss you very much.
