Parley Glenn Schenk, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away surrounded by his family on the morning of December 26th 2017 at University Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Glenn was born in Lund, Idaho to Parley Leroy Schenk and Neomia (Pat) Freda Jenson on October 30, 1935. Glenn was the oldest son of 8 children. He married JeNeal Pack on August 16, 1957, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They had 8 children, two sons and six daughters.
Glenn graduated from North Gem High School and went on to earn his BS in mathematics at University of Utah with summer NROTC cruises to France, Portugal, Cuba and Chile. He completed US Navy Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. From 1957 – 1967 Glenn served in the US Navy as a pilot and teacher. Highlights were flying on and off aircraft carriers; living in San Diego, Florida, Texas, Hawaii, Monterey, and Annapolis; flying transport planes to Japan, Philippines, Okinawa, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Guam, Alaska, Australia, and New Zealand; teaching and writing a textbook at the US Naval Academy.
In 1967, Glenn and JeNeal moved their family back to Lund to farm and raise their family where Glenn built a do-it-yourself home. In 1984 Glenn taught math and science at Soda Springs High School for one year and then taught at North Gem High School until 2000. He also coached volleyball and quiz bowl teams.
Retirement was spent traveling to family events, including lots of baby blessings, baptisms, weddings, graduations, grandchildren's sporting events, family reunions, etc. A few notable trips also included a cruise to Mexico with the children and their spouses for Glenn and Jill's 50th wedding anniversary, a cruise to Alaska with his two brothers and their spouses, and a trip to South Africa to attend a traditional native wedding ceremony for a nephew. Glenn also enjoyed gardening and doing projects around their home. Glenn and JeNeal served a mission in Salt Lake City as Senior Mission Coordinators.
Glenn's hobbies and interests include playing grandpa, woodworking, playing keyboard, digital photography, computers, MP3's, and family history. Glenn enjoyed serving as the treasurer for the Chesterfield Foundation for 12 years.
Glenn was devoted in his church service. Callings include Elders Quorum Counselor, Ward Clerk, Stake Mission President, High Council, Counselor to 3 stake presidents in Soda Springs Idaho and Grace Idaho stakes, Bishop of Bancroft 1st ward twice, primary pianist, gospel doctrine teacher, worker in the Logan, Utah temple, and Stake Patriarch.
Glenn was preceded in death by both his parents and two sisters, Dorothy and Janette; a grandson, Lyle Michael Clark; and a great-grandson, Samuel Olsen; his in-laws, Phillip and Pearl Pack; and two brothers-in-law, Craig Pack and Marvin Pack. He is survived by his wife, JeNeal, and their eight children; Steven (Karla) Schenk, Melanie Clark, Laurie (Derris) Anderson, Leslie (Stacy) King, Sheri (Tom) Condie, Karen (Derek) Moser, Michael (Yvett) Schenk, and Colleen (Nephi) Gibson and 37 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Bruce (Laura) Schenk and Kim (Donnette) Schenk and three sisters, Virginia (Frank) Barker, Marianne McGinnis, and Kathie (John) Nelson.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at noon at the Bancroft LDS Ward Chapel. Family will visit with friends on Friday evening 6-8 p.m. at the Bancroft Church and also on Saturday morning from 10-11:30 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Lund Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Chesterfield Foundation, the Bancroft LDS Ward Missionary Fund, or the LDS Humanitarian Fund.
