Harris S. Gilbert, 77, of Bancroft, Idaho passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at the University Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Harris was born August 24, 1945 to parents J. Harris and Erma Viola Simons Gilbert in Soda Springs, Idaho.
He married Carla Jean Kinghorn on June 18, 1971, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were blessed with 5 children: James, Michelle, Nichole, Stephanie and Kendra. Harris spent most of his life in Bancroft, Idaho.
He was an LDS Missionary in the Eastern Atlantic States. He served as a bishop, in the bishopric, and on the High Council. He served in the Young Men's and Sunday School Presidencies and was a ward mission leader.
His civic leadership included being a Bancroft City Councilman and was on the Bancroft Grain Growers Board. He served on the school board, Boy Scouts and on the Soil Conservation Board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, snowmobiling, four wheeling, Dutch oven cooking, and traveling.
Harris was a veteran of the Army National Guard.
Harris is survived by his wife, Carla, and five children, James and Margie Gilbert of Soda Springs, Michele and Brian Hatch of West Valley, UT, Nichole and Jason Erskine of West Jordan, UT, Stephanie and Adam Frugoli of Idaho Falls, ID, and Kendra and Chris Cannon of Idaho Falls, ID. He is also survived by his brother Dean and Marilyenn Gilbert of Bancroft, Idaho, and sisters Nedra Bowles of Logan, Utah and Edna Turnbow of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Harris was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Dwain and Bernice Kinghorn, his grandparents James and Jenny Gilbert, Joseph and Bertha Simons, sister in-law Barbara Gilbert, and by a great grandson, Lincoln Nuttall.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at the Bancroft LDS Church at 12:00 noon. The family will meet with friends at Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs on Friday, April 7th from 6-7pm and at the church from 10:30-11:30 am prior to services on Saturday. Interment will be at the Bancroft Cemetery.
