Helen Joy Paskins Roholt, 86, passed away peacefully in her home December 27, 2017.
Born on Feb. 21, 1931 in Idaho Falls, ID to George and Ann Paskins, Helen was the third of five children. She lived most of her young life in Grace, ID where she attended Grace High School, excelled in her studies, and graduated with high honors. While working at the local drug store in Grace, ID, Helen met the love of her life, Verland Roholt. She had to do a lot of chasing, but in the end she caught her man and they were married July 1, 1950. Together, they moved to Bancroft ID and Kemmerer, WY before finally settling down in their life long home in Soda Springs, ID. The happy couple was blessed with four beautiful daughters in subsequent years making their family whole. On March 3, 1966 the family was sealed together for eternity in the Logan, UT LDS Temple. Helen was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many positions. Her favorite calling was as the MIA President as each of her daughters attended through the following years. She had many friends in the Church with whom she loved to spend time with and she enjoyed planning and participating in the many activities. Helen was employed with the United States Postal Service in Soda Springs for 26 years where "neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom" could keep her from doing her part in ensuring the citizens of Soda Springs received their deliveries.
After her retirement, she and Verland spent their time doing what they loved… boating and fishing. They summered in Soda Springs and spent their winters in the warmer climate of Overton, NV. Verland passed away in 2001 after which Helen spent her winters with her sisters in St. George, UT. The three girls really enjoyed their time together. In 2009 Helen was diagnosed with leukemia. She endured two rounds of chemotherapy, and though she fought valiantly, it took a toll on her health. Unfortunately, the treatment and schedules put an end to her winters in St. George.
Helen loved playing cards and was an active member of the Pink Ladies. She passed this love of card games on to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Five Crowns is a multi-generational activity, and one part of Forced Family Fun that was never complained about, in Helen's family.
As her health deteriorated further, Helen's granddaughter Kelsy and Kelsy's twins Trey and Taylor moved in with her. Helen loved spending time with the twins. She especially enjoyed when the twins would read to her. She and Trey never missed watching a Jazz game and would cheer their team on to victory. Helen loved attending her great grandchildren's dance recitals and games, and enthusiastically celebrated their accomplishments with them.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Verland and daughter Karen.
She is survived by her daughters, Christine Irving, Gainesville, FL; KaLynne (Brad) Dahle, Clarkston, UT; and Kim (Jeff) Fetters, Soda Springs, ID; twelve grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Helen has returned to our Heavenly Father and her husband whom she had missed for so long. Oh! What a happy reunion she is having with her husband, daughter, parents and her sister LaRue and LaRue's husband David.
The family wants to express a special thanks to Kelsy, Trey, and Taylor for being there every day to take care of Helen in her later years. And to Chet and Robyn Hopkins, her longtime Home Teachers, as they helped her with so many ways. She enjoyed their company and reminiscing about old times.
