Ilene Moore Horsley, 88 of Soda Springs passed away on Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Caribou Memorial Living Center in Soda Springs.
Ilene was born on April 18, 1930 the daughter of Albert Ray Moore and Emma Mockli Moore. Ilene often claimed that she had "the best parents ever!" and loved to tell stories of her happy childhood in the little house on S. 1st E. In her last years, she never tired of driving by it and revisiting the memories that she had from those days gone by.
Ilene met her one true love, William Herbert Horsley, while working at the Soda Fountain at Eastman Drug. After numerous cherry cokes and walks through the park, they were married March 18, 1951 in Soda Springs, Idaho. He passed away April 8, 2014 and has been patiently waiting for another game of cribbage, some homemade bread, and to once again dance with her ever since.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and a Cub Scout Leader for both Bill and Doug, her two sons.
Ilene was an active member of the community and served as Deputy Clerk at the Caribou County Courthouse for 3 years prior to getting married. She was a member of the Caribou Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Pink Ladies for numerous years. Ilene was an election vote counter and Secretary-Treasurer for the Women's Benefit Association. In her spare time she enjoyed being a member of several Bridge Clubs and the Red Hat Society.
She loved playing cards with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids patiently teaching them as soon as they were old enough to hold a couple of cards. She also enjoyed supporting them in their various sporting events and she and Bill rarely missed attending. In addition she always had a good book or a crossword puzzle, or could be found in the kitchen baking a sweet treat or canning some huckleberry jelly or some homemade pickles. Ilene loved poetry and would often recite it when something sparked a memory that reminded her of a short poem. She loved to sing and preferred that people join in on her favorite tunes.
She is survived by two sons and one daughter, Bill (Denise) Horsley of Soda Springs, Idaho, Doug (Diane) Horsley of Lawrenceville, Georgia and Kibbie (Guy) Crawford of Bozeman, Montana. She is survived by 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great- grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband W.H. Horsley, her parents, Albert and Emma Moore, and two brothers, Verland and Eldon Moore, and a great granddaughter Elora May Horsley, and grandson-in-law, Gerald Allen.
Services will be held on Wednesday, August 15 at 11 a.m. at the Hooper LDS Chapel. Family will visit with friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Church prior to services. Burial will be in the Soda Springs Fairview Cemetery.
