Ilene Hansen Sherman, 83, of Preston, Idaho, passed away on March 31, 2017.

The first of three children, Ilene was born May 2, 1933, in Driggs, Idaho, the daughter of Seth and Carrol (Waddell) Hansen. After graduating from Teton High School, she married Emmil Monroe Sherman in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 29, 1951. They were the parents of seven children: Craig (Carla) of Victor, ID, Cindy (Don) Patton of Logan, UT, Pennie (Charles) Titcomb of Grace, ID, Peggy (Gordon) Gibson of Grace, ID, Corey Sherman of Soda Springs, ID, Mindi (Gerry) Sullivan of Lake Arrowhead, CA, and Trever (Kristin) Sherman of Los Angeles, CA. She had thirty grandchildren and fifty-seven great grandchildren. Emmil and Ilene spent their early years in the Teton Valley, living in Tetonia, ID, for eighteen years, and Victor, ID, for thirty-six years. They relocated to Preston, ID, where they have lived for thirty years. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ilene served as a visiting teacher, young women's president, ward chorister, primary chorister, and laurel advisor. With her beautiful soprano voice, she participated in a women's quartet and sang with the dance orchestra. Ilene and her husband were dance directors to a variety of church groups. Ilene, who was a wonderful cook, used her skills by hosting cooking demonstrations, as well as working in several restaurants. Ilene blessed the lives of everyone around her with her many talents. She was well known for her candy making and cooking. She frequently fed strangers in need of help that her husband brought home unannounced. She was a gifted seamstress, often sketching her own patterns. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, and she enjoyed collecting and displaying her 1,700 Santa Clauses, inviting all to share in her pleasure. Ilene also loved celebrating life with her family by hosting countless family get-togethers, drawing everyone together to enjoy her delicious food and company. She had many hobbies, including reading, listening to music, solving crossword puzzles, crafting, and collecting cow memorabilia. Ilene is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as her siblings: Dennis (Marianne) Hansen of Meridian, ID, and RaNae (Steve) Foster of Rigby, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents, Seth and Carrol (Waddell) Hansen; grandsons, Tige Sherman, Emmil Craig Sherman, and Philip Gibson; and great granddaughter, Emily Sherman. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at the Preston 10th Ward LDS Chapel, 155 N. 200 W., Preston, Idaho. A viewing will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and from 9:00 am to 10:30 am on Saturday at the Church prior to services.
