Ina Gibson Akey, 84, of Pocatello, passed away Friday, October 2, 2009 in Pocatello.
She was born March 7, 1925 in Grace, Idaho the daughter of Howard and Elsie Kingsford Gibson.
Ina was raised and educated in Grace Idaho and graduated from Grace High School. Following graduation from High School she she moved to Pocatello and worked several years at the Naval Ordinance Plant where she was employed prior to being married. She spent most of her life in Idaho Falls following her marriage.
She married Robert L. Akey on March 4, 1951 in Pocatello, Idaho. Robert passed away May 19, 1995.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings. She enjoyed teaching in primary and was always willing to serve and help others.
She was a wonderful mother and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She liked to read and loved spending time with family. She enjoyed outdoor activities with her children including going for long walks, bike riding, and going for picnics in the mountains. She was very kind and compassionate towards everyone and appreciated the staff members and residents of the Rosetta Assisted Living Center and other places she had lived.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Susan E. and Jim Grischkowsky of Pocatello, Idaho and Marie L. and Brian Atkinson of Rexburg, Idaho. She is also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, William Doris Gibson, Andrew Gibson, Howard Clendon Gibson and four sisters, Eva Jenks, Norma Johnson, Fern Fredrickson and Myrl Caldwell.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at 3:30 p.m. at the Grace Cemetery.
