Iona Ashbaker Thomas, 88, Beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away Monday, January 14, 2013 at the Heritage Home Living Center in Preston, Idaho. She was born March 14, 1924 at Grace, Idaho to William Wray and Loretta Miles Ashbaker. She was the 2nd child and had an older brother William Douglas. Iona grew up in the Grace area, attending grade school at the Telluride Grace School, and high school at Grace High School, Grace, Idaho. She participated in basketball, track and drama. Shortly after graduation, on July 23, 1942 she married John Junior Thomas, at Soda Springs, Idaho. They made their home on the family farm. Iona's life was a true testament of service and love. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many callings in the Ward and was the Stake Relief Society President. Her greatest calling was serving with her husband, John, as officiators in the Logan LDS Temple. She enjoyed painting, sewing, piecing quilts for her children and grandchildren, dipping chocolates of all kinds and helping out on the farm. She made sure she was having fun in everything she did. Iona is survived by four sons, John Wynn and Neta Thomas of Grace, ID, Larry and Laurie Thomas of Grace, ID, Ronald and Brenda Thomas of Stage Coach, NV, and Sherwin A and Connie Thomas of Grace, ID, and twenty one Grandchildren and Forty two Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents and her brother. The family wishes to express our gratitude to Access Home Care, and Hospice and all those at Heritage Home Living Center and the Doctors for their special care and concern. Services will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013 at Noon at the Grace LDS Stake Center. The family will visit with friends and family on Sunday evening from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs, ID, and also on Monday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the church prior to services.
