James Donald Barratt, 86, passed away at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City on February 5, 2017. He left this Earth surrounded by his loving wife and family and returned to his Father in Heaven.
He was born in American Fork, Utah on November 24, 1930 to Donald and Harriet Zimmerman Barratt.
He married Sally Goodridge on October 15, 1953 in Provo, Utah
He lived in American Fork, Utah from 1930 -1953, Huntington Beach, California from 1953 to 1954, Provo Utah from 1954-1956, American Fork, Utah from 1956-1963, Pleasant Grove, Utah from 1963-1974, American Fork, Utah from 1974-1994 and lived in Grace, Idaho the rest of his years on earth.
He graduated from American Fork High School and received a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering at Brigham Young University. He was an industrial engineer, farmer and rancher. He enjoyed fly fishing, taking drives with his wife, boating, hunting, watching football, the Utah Jazz and Western movies.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was a temple worker at the Logan LDS Temple.
He served in the US Navy during the Korean war.
He is survived by his wife Sally; sons, Mike & Wendy Barratt, Highland Utah and Mark & Melissa Barratt, Cedar Fort, UT; daughters, Mindy Sager, American Fork, Utah and Michelle and Randy Shepherd, Lehi, Utah. He is survived by grandchildren: Amanda (Sean) Thompson, Bridgette (Christian) DeGray, Cassie (Brent) Allen, Dominick (Megan) Barratt, Jace Sager, Keagan Shepherd, Kasha (Ryan) Arbon, Keldon (Loni) Shepherd, Wyatt, Kodee, Ashley, and Lexi Barratt. He is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren: Beau, Lucy and Cash Thompson; Grant and Finn DeGray; Aspen, Gage, and Cooper Allen; Ayla Mae Barratt; Roman and Mason Shepherd; Tyson, Brooklyn, Jackson, and Peyton Arbon; and Scarlett Shepherd.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Flora Mae Reynolds, a grandson, Shane Sager, and a son-in-law, Ron Sager.
Funeral services will be held at the Williams Ward Chapel in Niter on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at noon. The family will meet with friends on Friday, February 10 at the church from 6-8 and on Saturday from 10:30- 11:30. Interment will be at the Lago Cemetery.
