Henry Jay Turner, 84; of Pocatello formerly of Grace passed away Monday, July 13, 2009 in Pocatello.
Heaven needed another shepherd so our loving husband, father, and grandfather passed thru the veil to prepare the way for his family. He battled heart problems for many years in which Congestive heart failure developed.
Jay was born March 26, 1925 in Harlem, Montana the son of Henry Ross and Ila Priscilla Olsen Turner.
He was raised in Grace, and Lago Idaho. He graduated from Thatcher High School.
June 1944 Jay graduated from high school on Friday night and on Monday morning he went to serve his country. He was sent to Pearl Harbor to help clean up the debris from the air raid. The Japanese would build cement blocks under water to block the boats so Jay trained the first frog men to blow up the cement blocks because he was the only one who knew explosives. The frog men were top secret which was later known as the Navy Seals.
He married June Rigby on October 9, 1947 in Preston, Idaho and they were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple on March 19, 1951.
Jay lived in Lago where he and his wife raised 5 children. They purchased his uncles farm in Grace and lived in the Grace area until moving to Pocatello in 2007. He worked for Monsanto, E.C. Olsen Co. and Mel Brown Co. and sold some of the first irrigation systems in the area. He owned and operated Jay Turner Co. for 35 years and owned Turners Café for 30 years.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had served as Scout Master, Secretary in Elders Quorum, Home Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, ward clerk, Stake Finance Clerk and was a High Priest in the Grace First Ward and the Pocatello 52nd Ward.
