Jerold "Jerry" Asay Averett died at a local memory care center on 7/3/2018 in Pocatello, ID after a long battle with age related illness.
He was born on April 4, 1938 in Lovell, WY to Lamar and Zelpha Asay Averett. He went to school in Lovell, WY where he excelled at Basketball and Football. He married Sharon Jean Hensley on August 10, 1957. They moved around Wyoming early in their marriage as Jerry worked in various construction jobs. They had four children and the family settled in Soda Springs in 1965 when Jerry went to work as a heavy equipment operator. He worked his way up in the company and eventually became Mine Superintendent for Washington Construction.
Jerry was a well-respected supervisor and was able to pass his knowledge on to countless men and women throughout the years. He was patient and treated people the way he wanted to be treated.
Jerry was a loving husband and father. He worked hard to provide for his family. He especially loved holidays when the family would get together to share meals and laughter. His grandchildren were the light of his life.
Jerry is survived by one son, Wayne (Lori) Averett, Pocatello; two daughters, Lynda Armstrong, Pocatello and Lynette (Bill Swett) Averett, Granger, WY; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Voyles, Billings, MT, and Carol (Dale) Walker, Lovell WY. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; his son, Mac; both parents; a brother, Kenneth; sister, Jeanine, and brother-in-law, Keith Voyles.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 9 at 12:00 noon at the Soda Springs LDS Stake Center. There will be a viewing Sunday evening, July 8 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Sims Funeral Home and Monday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Stake Center.
The family would like to thank The Gables II in Pocatello for the kind and considerate care they provided for Jerry during his time living there. The family would also like to thank Encompass Home Health and Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Jerry during the past few months.
