Gerald (Jerry) Michael Gorton, 60, passed away on December 21, 2015 at his home in Phoenix, AZ.
He was born January 11, 1955 in Soda Springs, Idaho to William G & Marlene Cooley Gorton. Jerry was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Growing up in Soda Springs, he was active in scouts which grew to a love of the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, and snow machining, Jerry was an avid Seahawks fan from the beginning, win or lose. Jerry had many lifelong friends.
He Married Kathy Barton Bryant on August 20, 1980, and later remarried on December 15, 2006.
Jerry graduated from Soda Springs High School in 1973. Jerry was a very hard worker and excelled at industrial fabrication and engineering and won many awards for his projects. Over the years he worked for Monsanto, JR Simplot, Varian-Eimac, and Agrium until he retired in 2008. Jerry & Kathy then bought a home in Phoenix, AZ and spent their winters there but they always enjoyed spending their summers in Soda Springs with their family.
Jerry is survived by his wife Kathy. Children Mark (Sandy) Bryant, Soda Springs, Nicole (Byron) Armstrong, Soda Springs, Shaun Gorton of Phoenix, and Holly (Cody) Smith, Soda Springs. 14 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Mother, Marlene Gorton of Phoenix, AZ and brother James (Stephanie) Gorton of Phoenix, AZ
He was preceded in death by his father William G. Gorton.
Services will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at noon at Soda Springs 5th Ward Chapel. Family will visit with friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at The Sims Funeral Home and on Wednesday morning from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the Church prior to services. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs.
