On Friday, July 17th, Joan Parkin Meyer passed away at Caribou Memorial Hospital in Soda Springs, Idaho, due to complications from surgery. She was surrounded by her loving family.
A memorial service will take place on Friday, July 24th at 10:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church in Soda Springs. A memorial open house will be held at 3:00 to 6:00 pm on July 25th at the home of Clair and Pam Weaver 1446 West 1750 North in Clinton, Utah.
Joan was born on January 20th, l936, in North Salt Lake, Utah, to Elias and Stella Parkin. She grew up there and attended West High School. While living in Salt Lake, Joan met the love of her life, John Meyer, and they were married on July 12th, 1954. They created a wonderful life together in Utah, raising their two children, Pam and Paul; and building the home of their dreams. Joan's husband passed away in 1994. Joan moved in 2007 to Soda Springs, Idaho, to a less hectic setting where she easily made new friends and continued to enrich the lives of those she knew.
Always a hard worker, Joan enjoyed serving over the years as a cashier, a "lunch lady" (school cafeteria employee), and homemaker. While living in Soda Springs, Joan became an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and attended Adult Basic Education classes. Joan loved knitting gifts for others, cooking and baking, working in her yard, playing and teaching piano, and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. Joan was an avid reader and student. She was a consummate home decorator. Everyone admired the beautiful touches she added to her warm and welcoming home.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Pam Weaver (Clair); her son Paul Meyer (Lisa); her sisters Janice Kilgrow (Joe), Pat Kamerath, Judy Parker, and Jean Phizacklea (Fred); four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the many staff members of the many hospitals where Joan was treated with respect and loving care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to The First Presbyterian Church, 109 S. 1st E., Soda Springs, ID 83276.
